Junior year is an important one for a lot of high school athletes. Recruiting really picks up, and players are expected to make that leap into a team leader. As the 2020-21 season nears, plenty of juniors will look to earn state and national attention. Let’s take a look at some juniors who will look to make an impact for their teams this season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134626" first="Madison" last="St. Rose"], St. John Vianney</strong> – Listed as a four-star recruit by ESPN, St. Rose has all the tools to be successful. She is a force on both ends, and that was evident in her sophomore year. St. Rose scored in double figures in every game but one, and her season-high was a 36-point outing against rival St. Rose in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals in late February. She has showcased her ability to get to the foul line, make a ton of plays on defense, rebound and get her teammates involved. In addition to 18.3 points per game, St. Rose also averaged 4.3 steals, 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Expect more of the same in her junior season as her recruiting takes off.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134628" first="Saniah" last="Caldwell"], Saddle River Day</strong> – If you want a player who can stuff a box score, look no further than Caldwell. In her sophomore year with Saddle River Day, the junior guard averaged 20.7 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, 5.0 assists per game and 6.1 steals per game. She is absolutely tenacious on both ends. Caldwell knocked down 81 3-pointers last year, including six apiece in wins over East Orange, Lincoln, Morristown-Beard and Montclair Immaculate.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134641" first="Alana" last="Robinson"], Pope John</strong> – Robinson is a player who can also do so many things on the court. She posted 19 double-doubles on the season last season for Pope John. She also had a triple-double with steals in a victory over Parsippany Hills. She averaged 16.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.6 blocks and 3.8 steals on the year. Some notable performances came against Sparta (20 points, 17 rebounds, 5 blocks), Mount St. Dominic (29 points, 14 rebounds, 7 steals, 4 blocks), Parsippany Hills (18 points, 13 rebounds, 10 steals), Mater Dei (16 points, 10 rebounds, 6 blocks and 5 steals), Hunterdon Central (20 points, 13 rebounds, 6 blocks, 6 steals) and Union Catholic (26 points, 10 rebounds).
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134639" first="Madison" last="Schiller"], Ramapo </strong>– Schiller averaged 17.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.9 steals last season with Ramapo. She has a great cutting ability to the basket, and she get timely baskets in transition. Schiller can finish in traffic, hit the mid-range jumper and she has a high IQ on the court. Some top performances last year came against Hackensack (22 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals), Teaneck (21 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists), Paramus Catholic (23 points, 10 rebounds), Ridgewood (26 points, 10 rebounds, 7 steals) and Ridgefield Park (31 points).
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134642" first="Veyoni" last="Davis"], Moorestown Friends</strong> – Davis was a scoring threat for Moorestown Friends last season. In her sophomore year, she scored in double figures in every game but one that she played in. She dropped 35 points against Friends Central (Pa.) in January, and 20 points per game on the season. She was also able to knock down perimeter shots, get her teammates involved, rebound and make plays defensively. Davis gets to the rim and can make some tough finishes inside.
