In it’s first time in Michigan, the girls Top 250 was a huge success. I will name a class of 2024 Most Outstanding Player and Honorable Mentions from the event. Keep in mind, it’s impossible for me to see every moment, of every athlete, in every game played. This is strictly relegated to what I witnessed and some input from coaches.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Braxcynn Baker (5-8, G, Lowell)
Baker plays with a swag, and deservedly so. She plays inspired defense and liked to get in her opponents face. Baker, despite just entering her freshman year, showed leadership qualities and skills.
Anaya Billups (F, Detroit Edison)
This young lady has BIG TIME talent. Her game is incredibly fundamentally sound. She consistently closed out on shooters and boxed them out if they got a shot off. Billups was constantly communicating on the defensive end.
Emma Bruwer (5-6, G, Lowell)
Bruwer had the looks of a high level high school floor general. She played a pass first style on offense, quickly initiating the offense. Bruwer was a hustle player that caused chaos on the defensive end.
Anna Lassan (5-10, F, South Lyon East)
Lassan played in the post on Sunday, which was tough for a freshman with all the high level players in the paint that attended. She responded well to say the least. Lassan showed off excellent footwork in the paint and was able to gain position under the rim, even when under sized.
Grace Rakoksky (5-3, G, Grandville)
Rakoksky showed off a lightning fast first step. I saw her blow by a defender attacking the right side on 3 straight attempts. She looked like a solid passer as well, hitting cutters with precision.
Brook Simpson (5-10, G/F, Belding)
Simpson was absolutely terrific at the Top 250. She probably could play anywhere from the 1-4 come high school season. She was athletic, disciplined, and could score from all 3 levels. Simpson was a 2 way player that made an impact on both ends. She could push the ball in transition as well as take her defender off the dribble in the half court. Simpson will be a player for scouts and coaches to watch closely in the coming years.
