Among those who shined were a number of standouts from the Class of 2023. Here is just a few of who caught our eyes.
J’Adore Young J’Adore Young 6'4" | C Greenville | 2023 State #27 Nation SC – Greenville High School – There is more in store for J’Adore on the floor. The Red Raiders sophomore provides quite the presence for her team on both ends of the court. Height, again, is something that cannot be taught – and at a towering 6-foot-4, Young provides height and then some. Young was named one of the four tournament MVPs at its conclusion in addition to leading Greenville to a South Bracket title. Her paint presence helps on the offensive end as a scorer and rebounder as well as on the defensive end as a proficient rebounder and shot blocker.
Laila Hankerson Laila Hankerson 5'6" | PG K.O.D. Skills Academy | 2023 NC – Rock Hill HS – A transfer from Charlotte Country Day, Hankerson is sure to be a worthwhile addition to an already stout Bearcats team. Hankerson has no problems shooting a mid-range jumper and will go strong to the hoop. Also a key factor in Hankerson’s repertoire is her speed and agility. That helps a lot when one can get out in transition en route to the basket as she can. The Bearcats have not had a losing season since 2013-14 and with Hankerson as one of the team’s latest additions, it is not likely that Rock Hill will end up in the loss column much this season.
Milaysia Fulwiley Milaysia Fulwiley 5'8" | PG Keenan | 2023 State #9 Nation SC – Keenan HS – What more needs to be said? To say that Fulwiley has received plenty of accolades would be a major understatement at this point. On the ESPN HoopGurlz 2023 looks, Division I offers among others. At the She Got Next tournament in Columbia, she scored 11 points in a game against a Greenville team that did not make it easy on her. Her skillset, of course, is vast which includes 3-point shots and getting to the free throw line. Fulwiley did plenty of that in a second half in which Keenan got back into the game after trailing by eight at the half. She made four of her five tries from the line in the second half.
Maliyiah Mason Maliyiah Mason 6'0" | SF Gray Collegiate | 2023 State SC – Irmo HS (pictured on the front)
Mason can really score the ball at will in any number of ways including finishing strong against defenders. Mason plays the game extremely hard down in the paint and shows great versatility on the floor. Mason is extremely efficient in the paint on put-backs and just effort and aggressiveness play. Mason was able to get to the foul line while finishing on contact today.
Hillary Offing Hillary Offing 5'11" | PF Dutch Fork | 2023 State SC – Dutch Fork HS – The Silver Foxes’ No. 25 will thrive – as she already has plenty at Dutch Fork. Her play has dictated that she is more than deserving of her fair share of minutes as she proved during the second half of last season (as a freshman) when her production as a scorer and rebounder increased. In addition to patrolling the paint, Offing will make tough shots in traffic and also draw contact to get to the line. She managed a double-double in the victory over Cross on Friday when she scored 14 points and collected 11 rebounds. Offing has really good footwork around the basket and runs the floor well. Offing also excels on the soccer field as a goalkeeper for the Silver Foxes.
Meghan Davenport Meghan Davenport 5'9" | SG Irmo | 2023 SC – Irmo HS – Dutch Fork’s loss appears to be Irmo’s gain if how she performed at She Got Next is an indication of what to expect from Davenport this season. In two games, Davenport nearly earned a double-digit point output … in the 56-52 win over Christ Church when she scored eight points and in the East Bracket final against Lexington when she notched nine points. In that game with Christ Church, she also mustered five rebounds too, establishing that she can be every bit as serviceable when crashing the boards as she is at putting points on the board for her team. Davenport has a good stroke from the perimeter.
