They’re off to a solid start going 2-1 with wins over Rocky Mount Academy and Trinity Academy of Raleigh. Here are some players to keep an eye on for the Patriots throughout the course of the season.
Virginia Edmondson (5’8″ 2021 guard)
Edmondson is one of the top all-around players in Eastern North Carolina and proved it in the 10 games she played last season. The Patriots didn’t lose a game in which she played last year thanks to her 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and six steals per contest. Unfortunately, her junior season was cut short due to a knee injury, but she’s back in the lineup this season which makes APA a tough team to go against. Edmondson is looking to finish her career strong in a Patriots uniform where she’s helped shatter long-standing school records over her four years.
Rachel Okonkwo (5’10 2023 forward)
As a freshman, Rachel Okonkwo stepped up big time for the Patriots after Edmondson went out with her injury. She posted nine points, eight rebounds, and three steals per game in 2020 and is hoping to have the same success in 2021. Okonkwo is the ultimate post presence for the Patriots and at times showed that shes capable of carrying the teams offense even against great competition. Expect her to be a big part of this years APA squad.
Caroline Ouano (5’3″ 2023 guard)
The Patriots need a big season from sophomore guard Caroline Ouano because the attention offensively will be focused heavily on Edmondson. However, Ouano is a capable scorer herself and had some big games for the Patriots down the stretch of last year. She won’t turn the ball over and she’s a complementary piece to the APA backcourt. Ouano is coming off a solid freshman year and that experience should propel her to an improved sophomore campaign.
Overall, there’s a balance of youth and experience on this Arendell Parrott team that went 17-9 last season. In a tough conference with St. Davids, Grace Christian and Cary Christian, the Patriots will certainly be challengers with the prospects they have back in the lineup.
