Continue ReadingAs we continue our look into top performers from Oregon clubs at the final session of the coveted 28.5 League in Arizona, we take a look at a wide array of players with vast skill sets. Zoe Borter has had a significant showing with Clutch Rose, as she saved one of her most spirited performances versus a tremendous San Diego Waves squad. Bridget Winthrop continued to expand her overall game for Clutch Cardinal wheresas Beaux Bruegman showed her keen awareness and skills for Oregon Elite Gold. Dani Starr is an eclectic scorer that has become incredibly polished and disciplined for Oregon Elite Navy. Ana McClave made a showing as a facilitator who can augment her team through witty passing and uptempo play.
Zoe Borter 2023 6’0″ SG Clutch Rose/Beaverton HS – The guard has a lot of offensive variability and skill as she has a solid frame which she uses to absorb context at the rim. She is a three level scorer that has the ability to take her defender off the dribble. Borter showed up big time versus the San Diego Waves, where she contributed 13 points and 6 rebounds – a bulk of the time being guarded by talented Cathedral Catholic forward Taryn Johnson.
Bridget Winthrop 2021 5’11” PF Clutch Cardinal/Lincoln HS – Winthrop is a witty forward who played complementary to teammate Afton Keeney and provided as a versatile forward who can score, pass, and rebound. She has a keen sense of where her teammates are and can pass in the high post with a lot of awareness. Her 4 point, 6 rebound, 4 assist, 3 block performance versus New Mexico Clippers was indicative of her ability to affect the game in a multitude of ways.
Beaux Bruegman 2023 5’10” SF Oregon Elite Gold/Sheldon HS – This was Beaux’s second full tournament with Oregon Elite Gold – she showed her ability not only to blend in but blossomed in a role with her new team. Bruegman is a volleyball player – a setter who is used to making plays around the net. This translates to the hardwood as she has excellent timing for rebounding and scoring. Her 6 point, 11 rebound performance versus New Mexico Clippers was very telling of her abilities.
Dani Starr 2022 6’1″ SF Oregon Elite Navy/Sheldon HS – Dani was already known as an elusive scorer before her time with Oregon Elite Navy – now she has turned into an isolation scorer who doesn’t need a set play for her – she simply puts the ball into the net. A refined scorer who does it at all three-levels, Starr can score in any situation, any time. Her 8 point, 2 rebound, 2 assist, 2 steal effort versus Clutch Rose was telling of her all-around abilities.
Honorable Mention:
Ana McClave 2021 5’10” SF Oregon Elite Navy/Crescent Valley HS – McClave returned to play with Oregon Elite Navy and showed off her vast skill set, as versus New Mexico Clippers she had a pivotal game without even scoring the basketball. She chipped in a 4 rebound, 6 assist performance versus New Mexico Stars as a facilitating guard with the ability
