Continue ReadingArendell Parrott Academy continued their strong start to the 2020-21 season with a 46-33 win over John Paul II in Greenville Thursday. Despite not shooting the ball well, the Patriots defense was dominant forcing several turnovers from the hosting Saints. Here are some of the top prospects from this contest and how they performed.
Rachel Okonkwo (Arendell Parrott 2023 forward)
Okonkwo had a dominant first half and led all scorers with 17 points for the Patriots. She had 15 of her teams 32 first-half points in a huge run to give the road team control. The sophomore forward couldn’t be stopped in the paint and on the glass getting critical rebounds that led to second chance points. Expect her to continue the great roll that she’s on.
Caroline Ouano (Arendell Parrott 2023 guard)
When sophomore guard Carolina Ouano is hitting threes, this Parrott team is tough to beat. After an offensive struggle to start, she scored the first five points of the contest to settle the Patriots down and her play on both ends of the floor was big in this game. When John Paul II was making a comeback late in the second half, she had two clutch buckets to make sure the Saints didn’t get any closer. Ouano had 10 points and took care of the basketball well for the Patriots.
Virginia Edmondson (Arendell Parrott 2021 guard/forward)
While she only finished with five points, Edmondson made the most of her minutes by being a defensive catalyst. She rebounded and passed the ball well as she continues to work her way back from the knee injury that ended her season last year. Eventually, the Patriots will look to her as a go-to scorer and primary ball handler.
Dana Galinis (John Paul II 2022 forward)
John Paul II has already improved on their win total from a season ago and that’s thanks to the play of junior forward Dana Galinis. She had 16 points to lead the Saints and she’ll be counted on heavily this season if they want to finish with a winning record. Expect her to be a solid post presence and defender for this JP2 squad.
