Basketball is starting to ramp back up despite the rise in Covid cases. Modified practices for many schools have begun, with most of the public schools still unsure of who is enrolled at the school. Some scrimmages have happened and fall leagues for what it’s worth is underway, sort of. In light of the IH’s recent passing, the DMV rankings will continue in his honor. In respect to trying to keep up with transfers and injuries here’s a quick look at 11-20 the preseason rankings.
11. Maret - Maret has spent the past couple of seasons being labeled as "young and talented". Now the Frogs are veterans and [player_tooltip player_id="137215" first="Ava" last="McGee"] along with [player_tooltip player_id="137211" first="Page" last="Greenburg"] are seasoned enough to lead the team and challenge for a title.
12. St. Vincent Pallotti - Pallotti may be a team that benefited from the pandemic as crazy as it seems. Rumors of massive transfers didn’t happen as some options seemed unfeasible. Freshman phenom Kyiomi McMiller has been said to join the Panthers, while [player_tooltip player_id="136458" first="Makayla" last="Waleed"] and Lauren Russell will provide the leadership along with a one two punch on offense.
13. Bishop O’Connell - The Knights graduated some talented seniors but return a group that are very formidable. Nia Grymes is healthy and ready to explode on the scene and should turn some heads. Watch out as [player_tooltip player_id="143240" first="Aaliyah" last="Carlock"] and [player_tooltip player_id="21920" first="Adrianna" last="Smith"] are primed for a big year.
14. Madison - The twins Grace and [player_tooltip player_id="143230" first="Alayna" last="Arnolie"] are two of the top players in the state and feed off of each other. The Warhawks should have an advantage in the team chemistry department with three sets of sisters on the roster.
15. Lake Taylor - [player_tooltip player_id="21913" first="Ja’Naiya" last="Quinerly"] will be required to handle most of the load for the Titans. The good thing is she is more than capable as she’s looking to make a All-American run.
16. Bishop Ireton - [player_tooltip player_id="21912" first="Laila" last="Jewett"] and [player_tooltip player_id="143239" first="Kennedy" last="Clifton"] are enough on their own to carry the Cardinals to a WCAC title appearance. Mentally can the get over the hump as they have never beaten the top half of the conference teams in their careers.
17. National Christian Academy - NCA has a thin roster but the good news is you only need five players on the floor to start the game. [player_tooltip player_id="136414" first="Jersey" last="Mayfield"] provides a deep threat and should have the green light to fire at will. Amaree McKnight is extremely strong inside and surprisingly quick, she will pose matchup problems for many teams. Can the Eagles go 32 minutes without getting into foul trouble? That will determine their success.
18. North Point - North Point or should I say Charles County’s finest should be okay in their conference. [player_tooltip player_id="137218" first="Natalie" last="Johnson"] is one of the most underrated players in the region and potentially can end up leading the conference in scoring, if [player_tooltip player_id="164893" first="Ki’Asia" last="Smith"] can have a big year the Eagles will be hard to stop.
19. Roland Park - [player_tooltip player_id="137217" first="Myah" last="Simmons"] has been consistent since her freshman season. [player_tooltip player_id="84437" first="Sophia" last="Diehl"] is versatile enough to cover multiple positions. Together they can be a problem for opponents this season.
20. Western - Nyceara Pryor and [player_tooltip player_id="88782" first="Gabrielle" last="Johnson"] gives the Doves arguably the best backcourt in the Baltimore region, possibly the state. Success will be determined on how well they can defend the paint. Seeing the final roster will be interesting.
