The rise in Covid cases has put the 2020-21 season in jeopardy. The good news a vaccine is being distributed and has some promising outlooks. Still some jurisdictions have yet again postponed while others have tentatively cancelled the entire season. Modified practices for many schools are continuing with hopes of actually playing. We are still going through scrimmages and fall leagues for what it’s worth. In light of the IH’s recent passing, the DMV rankings will continue in his honor. A quick look at 41-50 the preseason rankings.
41. Hampton - [player_tooltip player_id="211106" first="Jayla" last="Hearp"] had a nice EYBL summer performance that was limited due to Covid. Look for her to carry the momentum on through her high school season.
42. Middletown - [player_tooltip player_id="136402" first="Saylor" last="Poffenbarger"], the UConn commit has all bases covered in Frederick County meaning she will have her way as she will carry Middletown at every position.
43. Bullis - [player_tooltip player_id="136423" first="Reniya" last="Jones"] and [player_tooltip player_id="136412" first="Krislin" last="Arjukese"] can deliver a one two punch as Bullis looks to get their first conference title in years.
44. Chesapeake - [player_tooltip player_id="136405" first="Kayla" last="Cabbagestalk"] and Tamara Stanford have a tandem that can compete with any team in the region. Getting the chance to complete their championship run is definitely something on their wish lists.
45. CMIT-North - [player_tooltip player_id="137210" first="Zanai" last="Barnett-Gay"] and [player_tooltip player_id="136429" first="Afia" last="Owusu-Mensa"]h are two of the most underrated players in the state. This team has top 20 talent but their schedule doesn’t allow them to prove themselves. If they can get on the court this season things can be interesting.
46. Eleanor Roosvelt - Sameera Smith will have to increase her scoring load for the Raiders as they have been depleted over the years from the powerhouse program of 2000’s.
47. Baltimore Poly - The Engineers are a shell of their former self but still have [player_tooltip player_id="136434" first="Tenea" last="Robinson"] and can still be dangerous.
48. CH Flowers - State champions graduating a First Team All-Met can be difficult to repeat but it’s hard to bet against Coach Rod Hairston and his five rings and a returning group that have tasted victory.
49. Langley - [player_tooltip player_id="143236" first="Mia" last="Chapman"] at 6’3" will control the paint for the Saxtons with little resistance.
50. Yorktown - Look for [player_tooltip player_id="143231" first="Ana" last="Bournial"] to have a breakout season. She has great size and a shooting touch from the three and can play multiple positions.
