With that win, HPCA improves to 6-0 on the season, all their wins by at least 23 points. Here is part two of the standouts from Friday’s contest between the Cougars and Eagles.
Nadiya Hairston (HPCA 2023 guard)
Cougars 2023 guard Nadiya Hairston ran the show at point guard and had an excellent game. She took care of the basketball, made the right reads and created a lot of offense for her team. Hairston was aggressive attacking the basket whether it was to score or make a play for her teammates. She finished with 11 points and four assists Friday and will be a big part of this teams success going forward. Expect her recruitment stock to rise over the next several months as she continues to improve for this Cougars team.
Georgia Walls (HPCA 2022 guard)
Although she only had six points in this contest, Georgia Walls made her biggest impact on the defensive end adding five steals. She’s a knockdown three-point shooter for the Cougars and when she’s in a rhythm from distance, HPCA is tough to stop. Alongside Hairston, they’re one of the top guard duos in NCISAA basketball regardless of classification. If Walls can continue to shoot lights out, it’ll only make it tougher for opponents to contain High Point Christian.
Abby Elkins (Grace Christian 2021 forward)
Elkins led the way with 11 points and added three steals for the Grace Christian Eagles last Friday. She did a lot of her work in the post, but also stepped out and hit some jump shots. She’s a solid player that JUCO’s across the Carolina’s should take a look at. Elkins is very sound defensively as a rim protector while also being able to guard on the perimeter. Grace Christian needs a big season from her if they want to play spoiler in the NCISAA 3-A playoffs.
