Pryor didn’t perform particularly bad, they just had no answer at all for the size and speed of the Fort Gibson Tigers. Add in Ft. Gibson’s stellar three-point shooting and it was all but over before it started. The Tigers of Ft. Gibson defeated the Tigers of Pryor by a final score of 89-39 to move on to the next round and face Verdigris on Thursday evening.
Player of the Game
Lexi Foutch | 6-2 F/C | Fort Gibson | 2021 | @LexieFoutch
Sometimes you walk into a gym and see a player who stands out because of their height. You can see the other team see it too. They get nervous, they game plan, they pass off “covering her” to someone else. Too often that player doesn’t merit the concern of the other team. They are slow or have concrete hands, no ability to finish. But, sometimes, the player is everything that you had hoped – and the other team had feared. Foutch is that player. She has soft hands when receiving passes, she doesn’t fumble them at all. She runs the floor better than most guards that I see, which leads to a lot of easy transition buckets. She uses her height well to high point rebounds and can be absolutely dominant at times in the paint. On Tuesday night Lexi had 18 points to go along with eight rebounds. She got those 18 points in what amounted to probably less than two quarters of play as Ft. Gibson emptied their bench and rested the starters. I was stunned to find out after the game that she did not have any college offers yet. That is going to change very soon.
Other Standouts
Kynzi London | 5-6 G | Fort Gibson | 2021
London has great size and is an outstanding distributor of the ball. She does a good job of running the offense for her team and keeping everyone involved. She has quick hands on defense and forced several steals in one-on-one defending situations. She is very smart, reads the play and does a very good job of executing exactly what the coach asked for. Her handles keep defenders at bay and open her up for dribble drives or three-point shots – which she had two of against Pryor. In total, London finished with 12 points, good for the second most on the team.
Kayley Alt | 5-7 G | Pryor | 2023
Alt is a very fun shooting guard to watch. She has great handles that she uses to force her way to the rim. She finishes with a nice left-handed lay-up that goes in more often than not. She can shoot the three, as well. She is a tough defender and a very fiery player. Only a sophomore, Kayley will continue to develop and could become a very good college player by the time all is said and done. Definitely one to watch.
Gracy Shieldnight | 5-10 F | Fort Gibson | 2024
The younger sister of former standout Zoe Shieldnight, Gracy has similar size and an even better skill set. She uses her body well in the post to rebound and score, but she is a game changer when it comes to the other things she can do. Shieldnight is a true hybrid player who has the handles and passing ability of a guard. She is a talkative, exciting young player. Her teammates gravitate to her due to her personality and communication skills. She can shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor and finished the game with eight points after also giving way with her fellow Tiger starters very early in the evening. Shieldnight will play college ball, it’s just a matter of where.
