Coaches Johnny Mack and Walt Hagins put together a winter league for high school teams and they brought in some of the DMV's heavy hitters for a action packed day of hoops. Here are some of the standouts from the day.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27870" first="Jalyn" last="Brown"], 2022, St. Frances Academy</strong>
Jalyn showed off her complete bag as she had everything working. She has really improved her shooting and has become deadly from three point range. She drained quite a few from deep off the catch and off the bounce. This will be her first season with the Panthers as she transferred in from Riverdale Baptist. At 6’1" her length is impressive on both ends of the floor. She brings a ton of versatility as she can play point guard, shooting guard and small forward.
<strong>Maddie McDaniel, 2023, Bishop McNamara</strong>
Maddie had a real good day. She has a very mature game and played very efficiently. She has a tight handle and is an excellent facilitator. She was mainly setting up her teammates, but when scoring was needed she took over. Her three ball was working and she got into the paint easily.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="84402" first="Chalon" last="Miles"], 2021, New Hope Academy</strong>

Chalon committed to play at Towson University and they are getting a good one. A smooth lefty guard, Chalon started off slowly but got going in the second half and led her squad to a come from behind win. She used her slick handle and killer first step to blow by defenders and create "And 1" opportunities. When the defense reacted to that she drained a few deep threes.
<strong>Hawa Doumbaya, 2023, Mt. Carmel</strong>
Hawa is a 6’4" post player who is comfortable playing with her back to the basket. She is still developing her post moves but she has a soft touch and decent footwork. She is an excellent free throw shooter which suggests she could develop her range out close to the 3 point line. She is running the floor more making more aggressive dives to the rim.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="142823" first="Sahnya" last="Jah"], 2023, Bishop McNamara</strong>
Ms. Jah was one of the most impressive players in the gym. She was a complete match up nightmare for St. Frances as she used her size and length to get a bunch of buckets and rebounds. She's 6'1" with an impressive vertical so she was able to score easily in the paint over smaller defenders and used her long strides and explosiveness to get around bigs. She was active on the boards and defensively as well. Major potential here.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="51187" first="Maria" last="Gakdeng"], 2021, New Hope Academy</strong>
<img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-238314" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/12/20201205_122226_HDR-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" />
Maria was her usual impactful self in the paint. She showed off great timing in blocking shots and hustled to control the boards on both ends of the court. She displayed good hands while catching and finishing in the paint. She is a quick and explosive leaper and at 6'3" she can move between the four and five seamlessly. She has signed with Boston College.
