Hudson Rixham (Charlotte Country Day, G/F, 2022) can drive the ball well finding the gaps in the defense. She does a great job waiting patiently for the opportunity to shoot as she can drain it from behind the arc. Additionally, she had some great old fashioned three point play opportunities scoring through contact including layups and jump shots. She crashes the boards in order to grab rebounds. She certainly didn’t shy away from guarding her opponents’ best player. Her IQ was on display knowing when to come up to the top of the key for the ball or make a break with a backdoor cut. Rixham’s back to back three point shots in the fourth quarter made sure Cannon knew that her team wasn’t going away. She hustles after the ball on defense causing deflections, and she knows how to pick the pocket of her opponents. She grabbed steals and pushed them up the court herself scoring in transition. She found herself in a one on one situation in transition and showed off a nice hesitation move to spin around her opponent in order to score two. She finished with 25 points.
Mary Holland Waters (Charlotte Country Day, G, 2022) made her presence known inside, but she also found ways to drive the ball herself through the gaps in the defense. She was a rebounding force inside making sure she had a chance for each rebound. On defense, she showed her IQ sliding into help when she was needed preventing her opponents from scoring. She hustled back on defense making sure her opponents didn’t have the opportunity for some fast break points. Her three point shooting gave her team some life in the second half when they were making a run to regain the lead.
Eva Butler (Providence, G, 2022) continues to make waves on defense grabbing steals and pushing them up the court. She fought through contact in transition making sure she scored somehow whether it was a layup or from the free throw line. She can score from behind the arc as well making her a threat on both ends of the court. One of her steals turned into two points retaining the lead for her team late in the fourth quarter against South Mecklenburg, and the Panthers never looked back after that. She is one of the leaders in her conference for points, steals, and assists.
Madison Skinner (Providence, SG, 2022) is constantly moving finding the open areas of the court. This allows her to show off her shot from all over including from behind the arc. It also shows that she is in the right areas of the court to help plays develop as they are supposed to. She rebounds for her team as well, and she helps push the ball up the court.
Katie Houpt (South Mecklenburg, G, 2022) did a great job driving baseline finding the open areas of the defense and creating space between her and her opponents. She hit a crucial three in the fourth quarter to regain the lead for her team in a close game against Providence.
Reece Johnson (South Mecklenburg, SG, 2022) drove into the paint making some points for her team. She also handled the ball well controlling the tempo of the game and running the plays. She remained calm in a close game against Providence in the fourth quarter showing off her jump shots to take the lead. Her teammates certainly trusted her with the ball showing off her shot late in the game.
Olivia York Olivia York 5'7" | CG Cannon | 2022 NC (Cannon, G, 2022) showed off her shot from behind the arc as well. She even followed shots in oder to grab rebounds and put it back up for some second chance opportunities. She does a great job moving on offense finding the open areas, and she can handle the ball as well helping to let the right plays develop for her team to score.
