In the end, a great defensive effort from the Nighthawks gave them a 49-37 win over the Eagles in Elizabeth City. Who were some of the top performers in this game? Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look.
Emma Richards (First Flight guard, 2022)
First Flight 2022 guard Emma Richards put on a show in this contest. It didn’t matter who was guarding her, she was simply able to get the job done for the Nighthawks. Richards finished with 22 points and shot 10-19 from the field Saturday. She was able to produce at all three levels and took the challenge defensively against really good Northeastern guards. Richards is certainly one to watch in the Northeastern Coastal 2-A conference as the months go on.
Elizabeth Clagett (First Flight forward, 2022)
Probably the best player on the floor for either side in this contest was Nighthawks 2022 forward Elizabeth Clagett. She was dominant defensively making sure the Eagles didn’t get any easy baskets at the rim. Clagett finished one block shy of a triple double with 14 points on 7-13 shooting, 13 rebounds, nine blocks, four assists and three steals. If she can continue to produce like this, the Nighthawks will be a tough out this season.
Jayla Brumsey (Northeastern guard, 2022)
Jayla Brumsey is a tough shot maker for Northeastern and it showed in this game. When the Eagles were making their run, it was their junior point guard who was making every play whether it was scoring or setting up a teammate. Expect her to be one of the top guards in this conference going forward.
Jasmine Felton (Northeastern guard, 2024)
Another one of the many freshman in eastern North Carolina producing at a high level, Jasmine Felton is a knockdown shooter. The Northeastern guard made a lot of key baskets in the fourth quarter to keep the Eagles close in this game. She’s been one of the catalysts for this team at the start of the year and will be going forward.
