The Panthers and Vikings have been through some great games over the last several years and both teams didn’t disappoint in this one. Who were some of the top performers on each side for these two storied programs? Prep Girls Hoops NC breaks down this contest.
Zamareya Jones (North Pitt guard, 2024)
In her first two games as a high school prospect, Jones has risen to the occasion for the North Pitt Panthers. The freshman guard took over in the fourth quarter en route to 24 points in her teams victory. She got it done on both ends of the floor, excelled in the pick-and-roll, blocked shots at the basket, and hit clutch shots in the fourth quarter. At this point, there might not be anymore superlatives to say about Jones, who holds offers from East Carolina and Ole Miss.
J’Nadia Maye (North Pitt guard, 2022)
Jones isn’t the only prospect college coaches should look at from this North Pitt team. Her backcourt mate J’Nadia Maye is an excellent shot creator in the 2022 class. She added 10 points which included a couple of nice takes to the basket and outside shots. Maye doesn’t get flustered while handling the ball and provides the Panthers with another really good facilitator.
Shakyra Bryant (North Pitt forward, 2021)
While Bryant only had two points, her presence on the defensive end was one of the differences in this game. The senior forward finished with six rebounds and five blocked shots. Bryant protected the rim and provided a lot of second chance opportunities for her team. She’s someone that should garner some late interest from college coaches.
Kenya Forbes (Kinston forward, 2021)
For this new-look Kinston team, a couple of familiar faces lead the way this season including 2021 forward Kenya Forbes. She’s mostly been a part of the second unit, but as a starter this year, she provides a low-post presence that also can provide points with mid-range jumpers. Forbes rebounds and handles the ball well for her size and will be a big part of this Vikings team in 2021.
Kahlia Hargett (Kinston guard, 2021)
Another Kinston prospect that’ll be asked to step up this season is 2021 guard Kahlia Hargett. She played a good amount last season in the second unit similar to Forbes and this year, she starts at point guard. While she was limited scoring wise, Hargett was effective as a passer getting great shots for her teammates. She defends well and takes the challenge of guarding the other teams best guard. Expect her to have a big senior season for the Vikings.
