In the end, it was the visiting Hurricanes who took control in the second half and never looked back en route to a 63-42 victory over the Knights. Who were some of the top prospects in this contest between two great 252 programs? Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look at the standouts for Thursday’s contest.
Mirachell Maher (Pamlico County forward, 2021)
2021 forward Mirachell Maher is one of the most underrated players not just in Eastern NC, but the whole state. She was the best player on the floor for either side in this contest notching another double-double to begin the campaign. The senior can finish on both blocks and has improved her jump shot as well making her a threat to score at all three levels. Defensively, she can protect the rim, rebound well, and guard multiple positions. Look for her to receive late interest over the coming months.
Anari Barron (Pamlico County guard, 2021)
Maher isn’t the only senior prospect that played well Thursday night. Senior guard Anari Barron is a shot maker whether it’s knocking down threes or getting to the basket. She’s also a solid facilitator that can create good looks for her teammates and that was a big difference in the contest. Barron is high IQ player and one of the top guards in the Coastal Plains 1-A conference.
Janeja Perry (Riverside guard, 2021)
Senior Janeja Perry has made a big difference for Riverside after transferring over from Washington County. Despite being guarded in a triangle-and-two defense, Perry found a way to beat defenders and get good shots that kept the Knights in the game. She’s a great leader that plays well on both ends of the floor and that’ll make a big difference going forward for Riverside.
Keshiya Rhodes (Riverside guard, 2024)
You’re going to want to remember the name Keshiya Rhodes because this 2024 prospect is very talented. The Knights freshman guard is one of the top young prospects in the 252 area code and it’s because of her ability to impact a game in many ways. Most know about her scoring ability especially in the mid-range game, but she can also pass and defend well. Expect Rhodes to have a major impact at Riverside this season and beyond.
