Janiah Shuler (Gaston Day, G/F, 2023) did a great job moving around the court looking for the open areas. Se was making cuts looking for a pass from her teammates in order to score. She did a great job attacking the basket. She moved well up and down the court even showing off her ability to block shots in transition. On defense, she did a great job rebounding the ball, and she knew how to push the ball up the court herself once the ball was in her possession. She also grabbed steals that turned into transition points. Her steals late in the game helped give the Spartans the run they needed to take the lead in a game against Metrolina Christian Academy.
Allie Huneycutt (Metrolina Christian Academy, F, 2023) did an excellent job finding the open spots on the court. She would make outstanding backdoor cuts where she easily lost her defender. She also moved well with the ball finding the open areas and showed off her jump shot. Her shot was on point from behind the arc, too. She was an asset on defense using her length to deflect passes and grab steals, especially when it came to the press that Metrolina used to slow down Concord Academy. She was grabbing steals and using the press from her team to push the ball in the other direction for fast break points. She did not shy away from contact near the basket. Her IQ was high as she showed how to make good decisions with the ball.
Deja Watson (Metrolina Christian Academy, C, 2023) was a nice asset inside for Metrolina as she knew how to use power dribbles in order to create separation from her defender and score. She also had some nice rebounds including second chance opportunities that she used to score her own points. Another player for Metrolina Christian Academy was Rachel Tate (PF, 2023) who was effective grabbing steals and converting those to fast break points in the press from Metrolina. She was great finding her place to box out her opponents and grab rebounds.
Dierdre Miller (South Mecklenburg, F, 2023) followed shots and scored off of second chances grabbing rebounds on the offensive side of the court. She can also score short jumpers. She ran the floor well making herself available for fast break points on offense and preventing her opponents from scoring in transition on defense.
