<strong>Newell-Fonda at Pocahontas Area</strong>
In a showdown of top TLC teams, reigning conference champion and state champion Newell-Fonda used a big second quarter to blow past Pocahontas Area, 81-50.
The Mustangs outscored the Indians 26-11 during that period and followed it up with a 28-point third quarter. [player_tooltip player_id="164944" first="Ella" last="Larsen"] scored 20 points and [player_tooltip player_id="164945" first="Bailey" last="Sievers"] had a monster double-double with 17 points and 19 rebounds. That included 10 offensive boards.
[player_tooltip player_id="127611" first="Akaysa" last="Duitscher"], a sophomore, had 18 points including three 3-pointers to lead Pocahontas Area. [player_tooltip player_id="63052" first="Abby" last="Oberhelman"], another key sophomore for Pocahontas Area, had 16 points with 11 boards.
<strong>Iowa Falls-Alden at Humboldt</strong>
Balance was again key for Humboldt, as they picked up a 51-42 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden. The Wildcats raced out to a 12-3 lead after the first.
Jayda Hoefer scored 17 points, sinking a trio of 3-pointers. Bae Arnold added 11 and Kendal Clark had 10 with 19 rebounds.
<strong>Bishop Garrigan at West Hancock</strong>
Reigning state runner-up Bishop Garrigan showed that they are just as prepared in 2021 as they were in 2020. The Golden Bears, led by [player_tooltip player_id="63019" first="Audi" last="Crooks"] and [player_tooltip player_id="63033" first="Molly" last="Joyce"], topped West Hancock, 62-54.
Garrigan was up 27-8 after the opening eight minutes, but West Hancock did battle back to make a game of it late.
Crooks scored 18 points with 12 rebounds and four blocks, Joyce added 14 and [player_tooltip player_id="165010" first="Kaylyn" last="Meyers"] had 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
