Who are the Class of 2024’s Newcomers?
By Michael Wholey 1/20/21 9:00 AM EST
Technically everyone is a newcomer as this was our first release of the 2024 class rankings. Here are some of the new faces for me in 2020.
[player_tooltip player_id="223866" first="Channing" last="Warren"] (Timber Creek) Guard
Warren is agile big who can play with her back to the basket or square up. She has a nice mid-range and the ability to stretch the D and knock it down from 3! She is a great rebounder with soft hands and plays well in ball screens.
[player_tooltip player_id="243886" first="Paris" last="Triplett"] (West Oaks Academy) 6’2 Forward
Paris appearance on the rankings are more on potential than production. Her older sister [player_tooltip player_id="151280" first="Mesi" last="Triplett"] is headed to LA Tech next year and at 6’2 and only a Freshman, Paris upside is through the roof! Post players typically develop later than guards based on coaching, skill development, style of play and body/strength. Paris is long, athletic, and tall – keep an eye on her!
[player_tooltip player_id="243892" first="Carmen" last="Richardson"] (Colonial HS) 5’8 Guard
Richardson can play both the 1 and the 2 and is having an excellent Freshman season for Colonial. Keep your eye on Richardson and the Colonial Grenadiers as they may be Florida’s youngest varsity team with their top 5 leading scorers being Freshman and Sophomores with Richardson leading the way.
[player_tooltip player_id="217669" first="Jade" last="Leon"] (Palmer Trinity) 5’9 Guard
If Colonial is not the youngest team in the state, then Palmer Trinity probably is right there too. The Falcons squad top 8 features five Freshman, two Sophomores and an 8th grader and Leo is the best of the Freshman. The 5’9 guard gives Palmer a tough 1-2 combo with 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="91640" first="Emily" last="Montes"] sharing the backcourt with her. Leon can knock it down from 3, hit the pull up jumper, or get to the rim. She is a gifted scorer who takes what the defense gives her.
[player_tooltip player_id="221838" first="Laurie" last="Severe"] (Archbishop McCarthy HS) 5’10 Forward
Severe has been solid the last two years in the Miami Suns Youth Development program showcasing her size, strength, impressive build and her ability to consistently play hard on both ends! She is typically the strongest and most physical player on the court who has a ton of raw talent and plays with a great combination of intensity and competitiveness. She is averaging 9 points and 6 rebounds a game at Archbishop McCarthy and will be one of their go to players for the next 4 years!
[player_tooltip player_id="243882" first="Jocelyn" last="Gagnon"] (Calvary Christian Academy) 5’10 Wing/Forward
Gagnon is averaging 7 points per game helping Calvary Christian to a 10-5 start. The 5’11 guard has excellent size and length for her age and it allows her to shoot and score at the rim over defenders. She does most of her damage as a mid range shooter and at the rim as she is shooting 53% from the field from 2 but does have the ability to knock it down from 3 as she has made 12 3-pointers through 13 games.
