Continue ReadingAs district tournaments tip-off across the state, PGH Tennessee would like to recognize some of the outstanding young ladies who competed throughout the past year. All student-athletes deserve congratulations for competing during these unforeseen times. However, the coaches nominated the following young ladies as outstanding contributors for their ballclubs during the course of the 2020-2021 season. Through all the hard work, pain, protocols, and ect., coaches nominated the following young ladies to represent the 20-21 Division II Middle Region All-District Team.
District MVP
Lashae Dwyer Lashae Dwyer 5'7" | PG Webb- Bell Buckle | 2021 State TN (Sr. Webb BB)– The Miami (FL) commit is truly a dynamic player. She plays the game with a high motor, which creates so many momentum shifters for her ballclub. Lasahe can create her own shot off the dribble, slash to the rim, and shoot the 3 ball at a high clip. She is an elite defender to where she is going to give her opponent 32 minutes of hard work. Her cat-like quickness enables her to pickpocket her opponents. When she is playing off-ball, she anticipates well and can jump passing lanes. This Toronto native really left her mark on this district and deservedly won the 2020-2021 MVP award.
All District Team
Mariah Edmonds (Sr. PCA)– The Kentucky Wesleyan commit had a phenomenal year. She was the spark plug for her team’s success this season. Mariah is a very talented PG that sees the floor well. She shoots the ball at a high clip from all spots on the floor. She has the ability to defend the full length of the floor as well. Mariah leads a PCA team that will make noise as they try to capture a district title and has their eyes on competing for the state. Look for Mariah to be the X-factor for her team’s continued success.
Bre’Aria Cannon Bre’Aria Cannon 6'0" | SG Link Academy | 2024 MO (Fr. MTCS)– The 5’11 combo guard had an impressive freshman campaign. She is tough with the ball in her hands and can slash to the rim and finish. Bre’Aria played a huge role in the success of MTCS this season. As her HS career goes on, look for her to be someone to keep your eyes on. She is a dynamic player on both ends of the floor. As time goes on, coaches will be knocking on the door of this young freshman standout.
Sydney Cooper (Jr., MTCS)– The 5’9 PF had a monster of a year. Sydney is phenomenal with the ball in her hands. She has the ability to create her own shot, play big down low, and shoots the occasional 3 ball. She is active on the boards on both ends of the floor. She possesses great footwork to where she will even guard PGs bringing the ball up the floor. Sydney’s versatility makes her someone to watch out for.
Lauren Vann Lauren Vann 5'7" | SG Webb- Bell Buckle | 2021 State TN – (Sr., Webb BB)– The 5’7 SG has played a huge part in the success of this Webb basketball program. Lauren is very athletic and can impact the game in many ways. From shooting downtown to slashing to the rim, Lauren has the opportunity to change the course of the game at a moment’s notice. Though she is great offensively, Lauren is phenomenal on the defensive end. She has great court awareness and uses her speed to create turnovers that lead to offensive transition points.
AC Markham AC Markham 6'0" | PF Providence Christian Academy | 2021 State TN (Sr. PCA)– AC has had a phenomenal HS career, where she has earned a scholarship to play at USC Upstate. AC is a dynamic PF that can do it all. She handles the ball well, shoots from the outside efficiently, has a nice mid-range game, and has incredible footwork around the blocks. Her presence is felt on the defensive end as she has great court awareness and can help control the boards. AC is a gym rat and has a great fluid shooting motion. Look for AC to have continued success throughout her basketball career.
Shanice Simpson- Whiteley (Sr., Webb BB)– The 6’0 post player has a motor on her. She controls the boards on both ends, is awesome in the pick and roll game, and has a nice mid-range shot. She is a beast on the defensive end, where she really establishes a presence in the paint. Shanice is a defensive force that instills fear in opponents down low.
Madi Lewis (So., Columbia Academy)– This sensational sophomore reached the 1000 point mark this year. Madi has great speed that she utilizes on both ends of the floor. She can defend 1v1 really well, jump passing lanes, and uses her quickness to poke balls from offensive players. Madi can shoot the ball at a high clip from all 3 levels. She has plenty of counter moves that enable her to get to the rim and finish. She is a dynamic player that has a bright future.
Kearstyn Seay (Sr., BGA)– She is the heartbeat of the BGA program and is a do it all player. Kearstyn will be attending Rhodes University next year, and they will be getting a phenomenal student-athlete. Her game is hard to define because she can do it all. From handling the ball to dishing to her teammates, Kearstyn is the ultimate team player. She can shoot the ball well from deep, and slash through defenses to get to the hoop. Though her offensive game is nice, her defensive presence is sensational as well.
Virginia Glisson (So., CPA)– This sophomore is a fierce competitor. She is a floor general who is the lynchpin for this CPA Lady Lions team. Virginia plays the PG position with poise and is the conductor of the offense. She shoots the ball well from deep, has great court vision, and can finish at the rim. She is awesome on the defensive end and can create turnovers that lead to transition buckets. Look for her to become one of the next great Lady Lions to graduate from this phenomenal program.
Addie Zapp (Jr. CPA)– The game runs deep in the family. Addie is a sharpshooter who likes to dial it deep from downtown. She has a great feel for the game and always finds holes in the defense to exploit. She handles the ball well and can create opportunities for her teammates. She’s a hustler on the defensive end, where she averages almost two-plus steals a game. Addie just gets it done and she has a great future ahead of her.
Emmaline Bartless (Sr. CPA)– The 6’0 center was the anchor for the CPA Lady Lions ballclub. She was a threat down low on both ends of the floor. She has a great block to block game and can shoot the occasional mid-range jumper. She was an enforcer on the defensive boards, which led to transition buckets.
Macie Meds (Jr. FRA)– The 5’0 PG was the leader for this Lady Panthers ballclub. Macie is a fierce competitor that shoots the ball well. She has the ability to come off screens to hit from deep, has a nice first step that enables her to shoot the mid-range shot effectively, and helps orchestrate the FRA Lady Panthers attack. She can defend the length of the court, which translates to extra possessions for her team. Look for Macie to thrive as she continues to develop her game.
Sarah Wisniowski (Jr., MTCS)– Sarah is a gritty player who has a lunch pail mentality. She is going to do the dirty work, which creates many opportunities for her ball club. Sarah is a beast down low and is effective on both ends of the floor. Offensively, she has great footwork block to block where she deploys counter moves to get the ball in the hoop. Defensively, she is an enforcer that takes up a lot of real estate down low. If an opponent comes into the paint, expect it to be sent back if they get too close to the rim. Look for her to add to her game over the course of the summer.
Abby McFarland (So., PCA)– The 5’8 wing had a sensational sophomore campaign. Abby has a high basketball IQ and understands the game well. She is an exceptional shooter that has a nice mid-range game and is great beyond the arc. Defensively, she defends well and has a knack for getting her hands on the ball. She did a lot of great things for the PCA ballclub. Look for her game to grow as she takes over the reins from the outgoing senior class.
