There is an abundance of talent, and in a previous article I discussed placing the players into tiers. Of course, just like any other class, you have the elite players at the top. Then, in the next level or two, you will find the bulk of the 28s that fit within these two tiers. It's a testament to their hard work and their pedigree, basically stating these girls are hoopers and would be valuable assets at the collegiate level. They are battle-tested, proven competitors who compete at a high level.

With the depth of this class, you will sometimes overlook the value one brings to a club. Some may stand out more than others, but some may fall through the cracks due to the system or their versatility. For instance, one may be playing out of position, but it's what is best for her club/ program. That's not a knock on the coach or the player; it's just what is needed. You also may find someone who would stand out on a lesser team, but because of the depth and talent, their role fluctuates, and they may not put up the numbers. One simply could play in a tough district, and it is hard to stand out with so much talent in it. There are so many variables, but my point is this: throughout the state, we have talent, and it's top to bottom.

I wanted to highlight some players that I consider overlooked wingers. Though these are just a few names, many young ladies may fit this particular mold. Kids who compete at a high level and get it done, but may not receive the credit or notoriety based on certain obstacles.

Check out a few overlooked forwards from the 28 class who are hard-working individuals on the rise.

This young lady has added to her game in many ways. Known as a scoring threat, she has become dominant with the ball in her hands. Early in her career, she was seen as a kid who worked the blocks. Nowadays, she can consistently knock down the 3-ball, attack off the dribble, and get to favorable spots to exploit an opponent. She isn't afraid to go at someone. One attribute that is overlooked in her is her passing ability. She sees the floor well and can thread the needle, making it easy for her teammates to score. She's still growing and in doing so, this young lady is ready to increase her stock and make a name for herself amongst collegiate circles.

Confident kid who is always putting in the work. One who can use her body inside and exploit the low block area or take some off the dribble and finish off two. She's powerful and physical, especially inside. Her 3pt game has been on point as well. Making it hard to defend her. She contributes in other statistical categories, making her a solid two-way player that's tough to bring off the floor. She's putting in the work, making a name for herself out East. Look for her to continue growing and build on the success she had this past season and what she accomplished in travel ball this past year.

One who will become a difference maker. She's a slasher who has deceptive speed and brings length into the fold. She's a kid who can shoot the 3-ball but also use her dribble to create off the bounce. She's a solid rebounder, but I love her ability to lock in and defend. Her length poses a threat, and she easily gets deflections and steals, especially when she is an on-ball defender. Playing with more confidence and freedom, look for her to continue growing and be a nice addition to the Lady Bears program at Mt. Juliet.

Dual sport athlete with amazing athleticism. She brings that “Mamba Mentality” onto the floor. A kid who plays with speed and power and can jump out of the gym. She can be used in multiple ways, such as playing with her back to the basket, as a slasher, as a perimeter player, or even starting a break. She's a downhill threat who has a nice pull-up game. A solid defender with a go-get- 'em attitude, she is definitely a prospect on the rise who is overlooked. Look for her to break many school records and become a steal for coaches looking for a versatile athlete at the next level.

A tough two-way player who competes at a high level on both ends of the floor. A multi-level scoring threat who can not only get you buckets, but defend at a high level. From spotting up on the perimeter to slashing through gaps, this young lady plays with poise and knows how to put the basketball through the net. I love her defensive ability. She is the one who will go out there and neutralize an opponent. A selfless ballplayer who goes out there on the floor and makes a difference. Look for her to continue growing and making waves. She isn't afraid of the big stage, and when she is on the floor, she does nothing but get positive results for her club. A solid ballplayer who is a proven winner.
