This win also gave the Cougars a season sweep of the Tigers after they pulled away in the second half. Who were some of the key contributors on both sides of this battle? Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look.
Kyrah Davis (Goldsboro guard, 2024)
The best player on the floor for either side was Goldsboro freshman guard Kyrah Davis. This 2024 prospect excels at attacking the basket whether it’s to score or make a play for a teammate. She rebounds extremely well for her size, blocks shots at a high rate, and is a knockdown shooter. Davis is one of the many reasons why the Goldsboro Cougars have really improved this season. So far, she’s averaging just over 15 points per contest and is one to watch in Wayne County.
Mary Archibald (Goldsboro guard, 2021)
Mary Archibald is one of the top 2021 prospects in Wayne County and like Davis, she’s had a great season for Goldsboro. She’s the primary facilitator for this Cougars team while also taking the challenge defensively against the opposing teams best guard. Archibald had another good game against James Kenan and is the glue that brings this Goldsboro team together.
Emma Avent (James Kenan guard, 2022)
Emma Avent is a really good 2022 guard prospect for the Tigers and she made her mark from three point land. She knocked down several shots from distance to keep her team in it for a while and she’s had an excellent season for James Kenan. Although the results haven’t been there, Avent is part of a really good core that’ll be back next season.
Nora Williams (James Kenan forward, 2022)
Another 2022 prospect that’s impressed for James Kenan is junior forward Nora Williams. She rebounds at a high rate and is a very good passer for this Tigers team. Her play has helped the Tigers be competitive in several of their games this season in a tough conference. Expect her to be a big part of next years team as they look to improve.
