The following Top 5 analyzes and breaks down the skillsets of some of the top point guards in Maryland’s 2022 class. This list serves to be a helpful resource for scouts as well as a booster for the recruitment stock of these players.
#5| 2022 5’4 PG [player_tooltip player_id="88777" first="Jenesis" last="Massenburg"] – Capital Christian Academy – Team Excel
[player_tooltip player_id="88777" first="Jenesis" last="Massenburg"] is a stellar two way guard. Her tenacity on defense is unmatched and it often turns into points on the offensive end. Jenesis can facilitate well and her only potential critique would be her movement without the ball. She often makes up for that with her solid three point shooting, and there’s no doubt that we will continue to see Jenesis grow and develop into a next level player. She totally has what it takes.
#4| 2022 5’8 PG [player_tooltip player_id="137208" first="Gia" last="Cooke"] – Bishop McNamara – GTS Fusion
[player_tooltip player_id="137208" first="Gia" last="Cooke"] is a speedster with incredible ball distribution skill. She also has a nearly un-guardable floater when she drives into the lane and, to reiterate, defenses simply cannot stay in front of her at all. On defense Gia is also lockdown. She always hustles back with passion for every play, on both ends of the floor, and it clearly rubs off on her teammates. She has an incredibly positive attitude and [player_tooltip player_id="137208" first="Gia" last="Cooke"] certainly has loads of potential at the division one level.
#3| 2022 5’7 PG [player_tooltip player_id="25571" first="Yonta" last="Vaughn"] – Bishop McNamara – Team Takeover
If you’re looking for three point shooting then look no further. [player_tooltip player_id="25571" first="Yonta" last="Vaughn"] is by far the best pure shooter on this list and the evidence lies in her three point shooting. She’s an absolute sniper from beyond the arc. If she’s given even a foot of space then she can pull up and swish it on you, but we also cannot forget her ball handling prowess. She crossed up a Paul VI player to the floor, literally, last year with one of the most incredible moves I’ve ever seen. It is truly exciting to think about what a special player [player_tooltip player_id="25571" first="Yonta" last="Vaughn"] is already, and it isn’t a question whether she will go D1 or not, but rather, which D1 offer will she accept?
#2| 2022 5’11 PG [player_tooltip player_id="25461" first="Kiki" last="Rice"] – Sidwell Friends – Fairfax Stars
[player_tooltip player_id="25461" first="Kiki" last="Rice"] is a star. Her overall game is incredible and there’s zero question that she’s ready for the next level. She’s as ambidextrous ball handling and finishing around the basket as any collegiate point guard, and if she stops on a dime her mid-range jump shot is lights out. On defense Kiki is a vocal leader and in transition she’s particularly dangerous. Kiki is a phenomenal ball distributor and her long frame makes it almost impossible for defenses to contain her. Everyone must remember the name [player_tooltip player_id="25461" first="Kiki" last="Rice"].
#1| 2022 5’2 PG [player_tooltip player_id="137209" first="Ny’Ceara" last="Pryor"] – Western – Team Power Move
Ny’Ceara “Lil Mama” Pryor is the best point guard in Maryland’s 2022 class. When asked to give a player comparison, her coach said, “Chris Paul.” What really stands out when you watch Ny’Ceara is her electric finishing around the basket. She doesn’t just do so ambidextrously, but also with this palpable spark of greatness and finesse. Defensively, Ny’Ceara is also rock solid and it just always seems like she knows where the ball is going to go. The sky’s the limit for [player_tooltip player_id="137209" first="Ny’Ceara" last="Pryor"] and “Lil Mama” should absolutely be present on the ESPN Top 100 list for the 2022 class.
