If you have followed Prep Girls Hoops’ AAU coverage over the years then you know that our primary focus during the spring and summer basketball season is on highlighting individual prospects and evaluating newcomers, not on team results. There are two exceptions to this approach: State Prelims weekend and the AAU State Tournament. This past weekend’s Prelims were all about team performance, and we were totally dialed in on the results to see who would capture the top seed in each of the four age groups we cover – grades 8 (2025), 9 (2024), 10 (2023) and 11 (2022). In the end, this year’s outcomes are quite straightforward to report because North Tartan won all four grades and will hold the four #1 seeds entering the AAU State Tournament May 23-25.
Here’s a recap.
11th grade – North Tartan 2022 EYBL
Last August, the star-studded 2022 Metro Stars squad scored a dramatic 66-64 win over North Tartan EYBL to capture an AAU state championship at Shakopee in one of the most hard-fought, most entertaining games we saw all summer. Sunday afternoon the two squads met again. This time around it was North Tartan that recorded the victory, a convincing 54-36 triumph that earned Gerard Coury’s squad the #1 seed for the State Tournament.

of Minnesota Fury 2024 UAA is the class of the Class of 2024, a national-caliber talent who seldom fails to deliver a standout performance. We watched Olivia play three times this weekend and she did not disappoint in any way. Olson scored 21 points in Sunday’s final against North Tartan 2024 Nike, but it wasn’t quite enough as Andy Berkvam’s team turned in a huge effort to post a 44-39 win over the Fury, who are the defending state champions in the 2024 Division.
North Tartan played with passion and energy and a commitment to team defense. It didn’t hurt that Chanhassen point guard Lauren ArnoldLaurenArnold

Arnold scored 14 points to lead North Tartan. 8th grader Rainey Welson of Appleton, WI, was also in double figures as the athletic, stocky guard continued to impress in her first summer in Minnesota. Coach Ashley Ellis-Milan’s North Tartan team turned in an exceptional performance to score a 53-46 victory led by Bree Bowman (Prior Lake) and Abby Hoselton (St. Michael-Albertville) with 11 points each, and Mylea Monahan (Glencoe-Silverlake) with 10. Bowman, who is a pure shooter from distance, played very well all weekend as did Hoselton, a big power forward who is progressing rapidly in her first season of AAU action.
