There are a number of familiar faces with new uniforms. We take a look at some players that have changed travel teams this spring/summer in the class of 2024.
Class of 2024
[player_tooltip player_id="214172" first="Beckham" last="Hockley"] – FGB (Formerly with Tampa Thunder)
Hockley is the lone 2024 starter on the UAA 16u team. She has followed up a great Freshman campaign with very consistent performances for FGB. She is a scoring point guard who has a high basketball IQ, has an excellent assist to turnover ratio, and shoots the ball at a high percentage. She does a great job of being an extension of the coach on the floor and is very coachable.
[player_tooltip player_id="221694" first="Jaylyn" last="Laguna"] & [player_tooltip player_id="221695" first="Jazlyn" last="Laguna"] – FGB Runnin’ Rebels (Formerly with Hollywood Eagles)
The Laguna sisters starred at Everglades HS this past season as Freshman and have made the move to run with the newly formed FGB Runnin’ Rebels under the direction of their high school coach Alberto Jempierre. The duo is a deadly 1-2 combo in the backcourt at the point guard and shooting guard positions. They play extremely well together and off of one another knowing each other’s strengths and weaknesses. It will be interesting to follow the two of them progression as they have a solid skill set and play hard but need to get stronger and continue to develop.

Hession had a breakout Freshman campaign for American Heritage Delray after transferring from Miami Country Day and made the move with her travel team switching over to Essence from the Miami Lady Ballers. The 5’9 guard averaged 10.1 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game showcasing her well rounded game. She is a natural scorer with a great offensive skill set. She is one of the states top prospects in the class of 2024.
Ka-Zahria Johnson – Essence (Formerly with Miami Suns)
At 6’2, Johnson is one of the state’s most intriguing prospects as her size and length immediately stand out during warmups. She impacts the game tremendously as a shot blocker and rebounder and continues to improve her offensive skill set. She has the potential to be a high major / BCS college prospect if she continues to improve her offensive game, developing ability to be a consistent shooter from 15 feet and score with her back to the basket with both her left and right hand.
[player_tooltip player_id="221841" first="Shania" last="Swan"] – Essence (Formerly with GT Queens)
Swan was part of the terrific trio of Ole Miss signee [player_tooltip player_id="91509" first="Jaiyah" last="Harris-Smith"], Ka-Zahria Johnson, and herself that helped lead Norland High School to 13-2 record and a deep playoff run before falling to eventual state champion American Heritage (Plantation). Swan finished 2nd on the team in scoring as a freshman with 10.3 points per game and shot 33% from 3. She also makes the move with High School teammate Ka-Zahria Johnson to Essence.
