With an excellent atmosphere and even better basketball, it was one of the best AAU events held in the southeast so far this season. Who were some of the standouts from NC? PGH NC takes a look.
Taylor Barner (FBC Carolina Elite Barner 2024, Panther Creek guard)
Panther Creek guard Taylor Barner was part of an excellent showing for FBC Carolina Elite Barner this past weekend. She’s an excellent decision maker out of the pick-and-roll, controls the pace of the game well, and is a knockdown three-point shooter with range. Barner holds several Division One offers including East Carolina and Seton Hall among others. Her stellar play will only see that list continue to grow as the summer goes on.
Caroline Thiel (Team Trezz 2023, Rocky Mount forward)
An underrated prospect out of eastern North Carolina, Thiel has been a consistent scoring threat for Team Trezz. She’s a threat on both ends of the floor from shot blocking and rebounding to hitting outside shots and scoring in the paint. Thiel had a number of big time performances this past weekend at Indian Trail and made a number of excellent plays throughout the tournament. The Rocky Mount forward is one to watch out of the 252 after averaging a double-double this past season for the Gryphons.
Sarah Strong Sarah Strong 6'2" | PF Grace Christian | 2024 State NC (Lady Strong Center 2024, Fuquay-Varina forward)
To no surprise, Sarah Strong Sarah Strong 6'2" | PF Grace Christian | 2024 State NC continued her stellar play on the circuit for an excellent Lady Strong Center 2024 program. Recently ranked number six on the ESPNW 2024 national rankings, Strong is a great shot creator that can get to the rim and hit outside shots on a consistent basis. She’s also a really good facilitator that makes good decisions and reads while not turning the ball over. Strong rebounds, runs the floor well, and is a great rim protector defensively.
Blanca Thomas Blanca Thomas 6'5" | C Charlotte Catholic | 2024 State NC (Lady Attack Elite 2024 National, Charlotte Catholic center)
The eighth ranked prospect in the ESPNW 2024 rankings, Blanca Thomas Blanca Thomas 6'5" | C Charlotte Catholic | 2024 State NC had a high-major skill set on display for Lady Attack Elite. At 6’5″, the Charlotte Catholic center is an excellent finisher around the basket, shot blocker, and rebounder. Even when Thomas doesn’t get a block, her size allows for her to alter shots all over the floor. She’s also a skilled passer at her size and has excellent touch at the free throw line. Whenever her team needed a big play on both ends of the floor, Thomas was there to make it and her recruitment will continue to rise because of that.
Ella Hobbs Ella Hobbs 6'4" | SF Jay M. Robinson | 2024 State NC (FBC United: The Family 2022, Jay M. Robinson 2024 forward)
North Carolina has several high quality post players in the 2024 class and it’s not just the aforementioned Strong and Thomas. Ella Hobbs Ella Hobbs 6'4" | SF Jay M. Robinson | 2024 State NC , a Concord native who is ranked number 14 in the ESPNW 2024 rankings, is the third of the likely high major post prospects. She plays at a high level while playing up two age groups for a talented FBC United: The Family team. Hobbs is a physical presence in the paint who rebounds, scores at a high rate. The freshman from Jay M. Robinson was recently offered by SEC powerhouse South Carolina and has several high major offers.
