2025 Watchlist Debut
The time has now come to introduce the initial 2025 watchlist which will grow to a ranking of 250 players by the time they are seniors. In preliminary looks, this class does have a lot of potential although I would say that there are not as many “sure things” like we may have seen in the few classes prior. All in all, it looks like a class that will shape up solidly and I think there is a potential to see 15-20 Division I kids come out of the class. I would say it will likely be very similar to the 2021 class where we saw 17 kids go on to play Division I basketball. If I had to guess at this point we will see 3-4 of these kids turn into high major prospects but there is a lot of development still to happen. If there are any changes needed to the future high schools, please let me know.
With all of that being said, there are kids who will very likely fall out of the Top 50 in a few years and there are kids who I haven’t seen yet that will likely move into the Top 50. Just because you are a player not on this initial watchlist does not mean that you are not going to be included in the next update in December. Fall leagues, our showcase this fall, and the high school season will be other opportunities to be seen.
Right now, it looks to be a guard heavy class as there are 28 guards and 16 wings in the watchlist while there are only six post players. That could change drastically as new players come in and kids develop. It is almost impossible to know what a player is going to play positionally in five years.
As a reminder, here is an article on how I process rankings and how players will be formulated going forward: https://prepgirlshoops.com/2020/04/rankings-update-my-process-for-ranking-players-2/
