Who are some of the best prospects in the West Palm Beach area?
I am going to keep this piece fairly centralized as I don’t want to include the entire county. If a prospect is not on this list, there is a good chance its just because I have to set the line somewhere!
Let’s look into some picks...
[player_tooltip player_id="145087" first="Checorey" last="Bouie"] - Cardinal Newman
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="145087" first="Checorey" last="Bouie"] is a talented stretch four/wing with her best basketball ahead of her. The 5-foot-8 Bouie averaged 12.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 46 percent from the floor. Her high motor and toughness is evident on both sides of the ball. Bouie recorded 71 of her 160 rebounds on the offensive end last season. Against Palm Beach Central, she recorded 20 boards (12 offensive). The latter would be an impressive line as a total, let alone on that side of the court. In addition, she tallied 30 steals in 15 games. Bouie should only get better as a three-level scorer this fall. The scary part for opponents is she put up the above numbers with an ankle injury. She runs with the Tampa Thunder.
[player_tooltip player_id="243927" first="Angelina" last="Kohlwaies"] - Cardinal Newman
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="243927" first="Angelina" last="Kohlwaies"] is a great prospect with or without the ball. The 5-foot-9 point guard/shooting guard averaged 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 3.6 steals and 1.4 blocks per game last season. Taking those numbers into account, Kohlwaies effects the game in so many ways and subsequently makes her team better for it. She also went a steady 23-of-76 (30 percent) from deep. Against Westminster Academy (17-5), Kohlwaies had 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals while shooting 55 percent from the floor. She also recorded a double-double of 15 points and ten boards against Dillard. Becoming more of a consistent shooter and limiting her turnovers will only help her as a junior.
[player_tooltip player_id="166165" first="E’Zaria" last="Adams"] - Palm Beach Central
Over in Wellington, 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="166165" first="E’Zaria" last="Adams"] had a great season for the Broncos. The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 13.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game while shooting 46 percent from the floor. Moreover, she went 15-of-49 (31 percent) from beyond the arc. It is also worth mentioning she was named a captain as a freshman. Against Jupiter (11-4), she scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the floor. Adams is an active defender that will cause turnovers if her opponent is sloppy with the ball. She tallied a season-high six steals against Santaluces.
Kyana Poitier - Palm Beach Gardens
2024 Kyana Poitier is worth keeping an eye on for the Gators. She already has ideal size at 5-foot-11 to contribute as a power forward. Poitier grabbed 16 boards twice against Santaluces and Dwyer. Moreover, she scored nine points and blocked four shots against the Panthers. Look for more offensive improvement from her as a sophomore.
Janise Paul - Palm Beach Lakes
2022 Janise Paul is a player I am going to push here for the Rams. While 2022 Casey Lewis returns as the team’s leading scorer, Paul grabbed a team-best 8.2 rebounds per game. Actually, the 6-foot center grabbed more boards on the offensive end (51) than defensive (47). Against Atlanic (10-5), she grabbed a season-high 18 points. With [player_tooltip player_id="91498" first="Zaida" last="Gonzalez"] and [player_tooltip player_id="91541" first="Deborrah" last="Seitu-Redmon"] gone, Paul’s offensive output should certainly go up.
Mo'Nique Joseph - The King's Academy
You could really pick a number of players for the Lions as they went 20-3 last season. I will highlight Joseph here as she finished her junior season averaging a double-double (10.5 ppg/10.2rpg). The 6-foot power forward/center recorded ten of them for King's Academy. Joseph is very strong and used her size to shoot 47 percent from the field. She is very hard to stop near the rim and she can finish with either hand. One area Joseph could improve on next season is her free-throw shooting. Against Benjamin (10-7), she scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Look for more of the same next season while keeping King's Academy on its winning ways.
