Florida Round Up – Volume 20 By Michael Wholey 8/29/21 2:00 PM EST The July eval period has concluded, we look around the state in volume 20 of the Florida round up to see what has been going on throughout August. COACHING CHANGES A pair of Florida’s top prep coaches joined the coaching ranks this month. Former Northeast and Coconut Creek High School Head Coach Brittney Scott accepted an Assistant Coaching position with FAMU and Head Coach Shallow Pillow. In addition to coaching high school, Scott has been a travel ball coach with several organizations including the last few years with the Miami Suns serving as the 15U EYBL Miami Suns Team Kiki Head Coach this past summer. Scott is known for being a high energy coach who is excellent with skill development and pulling the most out of her players and coaches. She makes an excellent addition to the FAMU staff and I am sure you will see her in a gym sometime soon on the hunt for some Rattlers! In addition to Scott, Charlsea Clark also joined the coaching ranks this month, stepping down as Head Coach at Bishop Kenny and joining the University of North Florida coaching staff as an Assistant Coach. Serving as the Head Coach of Bishop Kenny from 2015-2021 as well as Director / Owner of Clark Basketball Academy from 2016-2021, Clark was the FACA 4A Coach of the Year in 2021, the FACA 6A Coach of the Year in 2017-18, the Next Level Sports 2018-19 Coach of the Year, has had five players sign to play college basketball, coached 5 all area players and one 4A Player of the Year, and built Bishop Kenny into one of the state’s top high school programs. Clark was a three-year starter and captain at Flagler College and returns to UNF after service as Director of Basketball Operations from 2013-15. VERBAL COMMITMENTS [player_tooltip player_id="248563" first="Jazmine" last="Jackson"] (East Coast United) – Charleston Southern Coming off a stellar 2021 travel season with East Coast United 2022 The Family, Jackson verbally committed to Charleston Southern this month. July was the first-time seeing Jackson in awhile and she was impressive showcasing a quick, explosive first step to go along with a strong, solid build and decent handles. The 5’8 guard is a well-rounded offensive game and is an active defender who can pressure the ball. Transfer News [player_tooltip player_id="91577" first="Amiya" last="Evans"] will be suiting up for DME Academy in Daytona Beach for her Senior year. Evans is the final piece of the Tampa Bay Tech squad that was ranked top 25 nationally in the 2019-20 season. With a starting five of Jazmine Peaks, [player_tooltip player_id="145100" first="Jayla" last="Murray"], [player_tooltip player_id="91577" first="Amiya" last="Evans"], [player_tooltip player_id="91554" first="Janiah" last="Barker"], and [player_tooltip player_id="91525" first="K’Nisha" last="Godfrey"], Tampa Bay Tech was set up to be a powerhouse for several years. Jazmine Peaks and [player_tooltip player_id="145100" first="Jayla" last="Murray"] left for Winter Haven HS for the 2020-21 season, Godfrey enrolled early at Mississippi State, Barker announced her transfer to Montverde Academy and now Evans the final remaining piece is headed to DME. Evans gives DME the inside presence they were looking for. At 6’2, she is strong, versatile, a big time rebounder, and fills up the stat sheet playing inside and out! Miami Senior High School adds two new faces with [player_tooltip player_id="154900" first="Cameron" last="Araujo"] and [player_tooltip player_id="221696" first="Annalise" last="Lindsay"] joining the Sting Ray squad! Araujo is a 5’8 combo guard in the class of 2022 that averaged 19.7 points per game for Southwest HS during the 2020-21 season while Lindsay is a 5’11 Wing / Forward from the class of 2024 that averaged 7.8 points and 9.4 rebounds for Palmer Trinity last year as an 9th grader. RECRUITING [player_tooltip player_id="91577" first="Amiya" last="Evans"] Releases Her Top 5 It was a busy week for [player_tooltip player_id="91577" first="Amiya" last="Evans"] as in addition to her announcing her transfer from Tampa Bay Tech to DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Evans also released her top 5. Evans recruitment took off last summer, picking up 20+ D1 offers. The 6’2 forward narrowed her schools down to University of Miami, University of Kentucky, University of Central Florida, Mississippi State, and Arizona State. We will look to continue to cover all across the state of Florida. Our audience supplies us with some of our best information. Keep us updated on Florida news be emailing me at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com or DM’ing me through Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
