Over 60 players participated in the Coming For That Number One Spot Showcase this past weekend. Broken down into two sessions by graduation class, we were in the house for day 1 of the showcase. Here are some of the wings, forwards, and post players who stood out to us.
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="244206" first="Daimelys" last="Morera"] 5’11 Forward (Miami Senior High School)
Morera is a versatile forward who showcased her ability to stretch floor. At 5’11 she is a face-up forward who can knock down the open jumper out to 15 feet. She had a strong presence inside where she blocked shots and rebounded the ball well. She is strong, physical and plays hard on both ends of the floor.
2023 Kailana Lindsey 6’1 Forward (Wildwood High School)
Lindsey has a strong frame and does a good job playing inside and out. She was effective playing with her back to the basket posting up. She displayed an ability to finish with her left and right hand and several combo moves. Her versatility at 6’1 was impressive as she grabbed several defensive rebounds, grabbing the rebound in the paint and leading the fast break multiple times both taking it all the way coast to coast herself finishing at the rim as well as giving the ball up to the open player for easy baskets.
2023 Kyrstin Wolff 6’1 Forward / Center (Bloomingdale HS)
Wolff is an active front court player who was a very good offensive and defensive rebounder consistently going to the glass and getting her hands on a lot of balls. Catching the ball on the block with her back to the basket, she showcased her ability to score in the low post and finished well in traffic and often scored over multiple defenders. Defensively, she did a good job defending players both in the paint and on the perimeter.
2024 [player_tooltip player_id="217662" first="Jamesha" last="Card"] 5’10 Forward (South Broward HS)
Card is a unique player who is strong and physical. At 5’10 she is undersized in the paint but makes up for her undersized height with consistent effort, aggression and heart. She is a skilled offensive player who finishes well in the paint in traffic. In addition, she has the ability to attack off the dribble, putting the ball to the floor from the perimeter and getting all the way to the rim off the bounce.
2024 LeighAnn Hanley 6’1 Wing / Forward (Carollwood Day School)
Hanley was one of the top young front court players at the event. She had a good presence inside both as a scorer and rebounder. Her combination of length, offensive skill and activity level was impressive as she is not just an inside threat but can also step out and knock down the jumper out to 15-feet.
2026 [player_tooltip player_id="214183" first="Taniyah" last="Davis"] 5’10 Guard / Wing (Driftwood Middle School)
We have written about Davis several times and she continues to impress each time we see her play. Playing in the older division, Davis was the youngest player participating in day 1 of the showcase. Her combination of length, height, and athleticism grab your attention as soon as you walk in the gym. Then her scoring ability really draws you in as she is a bit time threat offensively, as she knocked down multiple 3-pointers, attacked in transition – both scoring herself and feeding players for easy open shots. Defensively she was effective using her length and athleticism to her advantage and was also an effective shot blocker. She is one of the top young players in the country and continues to improve and her potential is off the charts!
