We’ll be expanding on those lists as the season progresses, but for now, let’s talk about the top prospects in the state, especially the 2023 class.
This articles discusses the No. 19-22 prospects in New Jersey as ranked by PGH NJ in our 2023 prospect list.
No. 19: Jayden Foster Jayden Foster C Neptune | 2023 State NJ – C, Neptune
Foster is a fearsome player to face off against in the middle and is a mainstay in Neptune’s starting lineup. As a sophomore, she was third on the team in scoring and led the team in rebounding, something we should see even more of this season.
She averaged 12.2 PPG and 8.5 RPG as a sophomore, a healthy and steady increase from her freshman season. The shortened season, while it only allowed her to play 10 games, was one of immense growth and maturity for Foster.
We are now looking at a player who is incredibly confident in her own game and is a monster on the interior. The presence she has in the paint is becoming one of the most prominent in the Shore Conference. Look out for a break-out year from her this fall.
No. 20: Nia Scott Nia Scott 6'1" | PF Shawnee | 2023 State NJ – 6-1 PF, Shawnee
Scott is a familiar name to those in South Jersey and those who follow the Olympic Conference as she’s made herself known as an impact forward and someone who has an incredible amount of potential with her.
Standing at 6-1, Scott is a physical specimen and it showed as she was a consistent scorer, averaging 12.5 PPG and is growing as an intimidating defender as she averaged 8.3 RPG and 0.8 BPG in the spring.
The biggest thing to expect with Scott is the unexpected and that’s an incredibly good thing for Shawnee this season as we are expecting to see her burst out even more onto the scene in the state and around the country. A double-double average is well within the cards.
No. 21: Jah’Nel Lewis Jah’Nel Lewis SG Snyder | 2023 State NJ : 5-3 PG/SG, Snyder
Lewis has been as advertised and then some for Snyder this spring, averaging 17.1 PPG and 1.6 made threes a game along with 2.3 SPG on defense. Lewis is someone who’s going to burn you on offense, weaving through defensive sets and making opponents look clueless on the floor.
Her three-point shooting is something to look closer at as she’s really shown a great ability to get open and shoot with a quick release. The most important thing about her perimeter shooting is that she isn’t forcing it up and she’s making the most of her shot selection.
This is a player who is going to find the best shot or dish it off to a teammate if one is open near her. Lewis is also someone who can get to the line quite often, hitting over two free throws a game. She gets to the line early and often, which creates unorganized chaos for her opponents.
We have plenty more players to talk about with the season coming closer, so keep it with Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey for more content this fall.
