Here are some of those players:
Alexxandria Braddock (2023, Heritage)
Braddock made a statement on the defensive end at Let’s Get Ready V. She played very good help defense in the paint. Braddock’s ability to move side to side with smoothness and speed really aided in that help defense. Braddock has a ton of upside as a plus defender.
Makenna Clement Makenna Clement 6'1" | PF Lake Fenton | 2023 State MI (2023, Lake Fenton)
Clement showcased some excellent post defense on Saturday. She was strong enough to battle and keep solid defensive position in the paint. Clement was basically impossible to bully under the rim. She showed a nose for the ball when playing D and was able to read the shooter, rise up with the shot, and alter or block it.
Jada Collins Jada Collins 6'1" | SF Kalamazoo Central | 2024 State MI (2024, Kalamazoo Central)
Collins has length and she knows how to use it. It makes her a very dangerous vertical defender and opponents at Let’s Get Ready V had a hard time getting shots over top of her. Collins forces her opponents out of their comfort zone.
Sela Lefler Sela Lefler 5'6" | PG North Farmington | 2023 State MI (2023, North Farmington)
First of all, Lefler was a ballhawk on defense. She always seemed to be able to find the ball and be in a spot defensively to make a stop. Lefler was very solid with her perimeter defense as well. She was able to lock down some really highly skilled offensive players.
Mara Mitchell (2024, Jackson Northwest)
Mitchell continues to impress at showcase events. I first noticed her athletic D at a Flight Hankamp Open Run, and that defense was in effect on Saturday as well. Her ability to move smoothly in all directions really pays dividends on defense.
