Throughout this month (and next), I will be highlighting selected teams across South Florida. Today, my focus is on Homestead Somerset Silver Palms. The Lady Stallions went 16-9 last season under head coach Ben Drummer. 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91488" first="Amari" last="Hunter"] (15.1 ppg) is a key departure. 2023 Alexia Sanchez transferred to Doral Academy. Additions include Unique Horton from Miami Southridge and Shanaii Gamble from Homestead.
2025 [player_tooltip player_id="248642" first="Dianka" last="Hardisson"] looks to be the starting point guard. The 5-foot-6 prospect averaged 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. Hardisson will only get better with more reps as the teams floor general.
2026 [player_tooltip player_id="243907" first="Ashley" last="Martinez"] made 71 3-pointers and averaged just over 11 points per game. She could be one of the best shooters in the state. Both Martinez and Hardisson have years of varsity experience.
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="219952" first="Amber" last="Mateo"] is a four-year starter that has already eclipsed 1000 career points. The 5-foot-4 guard averaged just under nine points and 4.6 rebounds per game. She’s a good player around the glass and has a great feel for the game. Mateo should be a team leader on what is a young group overall.
2024 Unique Horton is a 6-foot-2 forward with a high ceiling as a rim protector. Horton uses her length well to defend and grab rebounds. Her offensive game is developing and she could be in for a big season. Regardless, her size is something to watch.
2024 Shanaii Gamble is a 6-foot wing with versatility on both ends of the floor. She is a great athlete and could be a mismatch problem. 2026 Stephanie Vega and 2027 [player_tooltip player_id="243916" first="Victoria" last="Valle"] have scoring potential.
The Stallions are a talented team overall with a lot of youth. The unit should develop under a challenging schedule. By seasons end, Somerset Silver Palms could be a threat in Class 3A.
