7A Semifinals: Stoppers and Blockers - Slashers and Shooters

The 7A championship matchup will feature an interesting contrast in styles. Winter Haven advanced behind a relentless defensive effort and strong interior presence that made scoring difficult for opponents throughout the semifinal round. Doral Academy, on the other hand, leaned on explosive perimeter shooting and offensive firepower, highlighted by a three-point barrage that helped power the Firebirds into the title game. Several players delivered impactful performances in the 7A semifinals, helping their teams advance to the championship stage. Below are evaluations of the key players who helped set the final matchup.    Martinez delivered one of the most electrifying performances of the semifinal round, putting on a shooting clinic from beyond the arc. The guard knocked down eight three-pointers, repeatedly stretching Centennial's defense and changing the momentum of the game with her perimeter scoring. Martinez showed tremendous confidence shooting from deep, connecting off the dribble and step back, off the catch, and off the pick and roll. Give her an inch, and she's taking "three." Beyond scoring, she also played in sync with teammates, facilitated the offense and demonstrated strong court awareness throughout the game. Her ability to space the floor, create shooting space, and knock down the three at a high clip were high level shooting, and she will take that weapon into the 7A Finals.       Vega delivered a dominant interior performance, providing the perfect balance to Doral's perimeter shooting attack. The forward scored 24 points on an extremely efficient 9-of-10 shooting from the field while consistently attacking the paint. She remained active on cuts and drives to the rim. Another telling stat- she shot 10 free throws and drew 6 fouls - putting Centennial in foul trouble. With defenses stretched by Doral's outside shooting, Vega took full advantage getting to the rim, making her a strong scoring presence in the semifinal victory.     Gray De Sanders delivered the most impactful offensive performance of the game for Winter Haven. Known for her offense, she attacked the defense relentlessly, finishing drives to the basket and repeatedly getting to the free-throw line, where she converted 7-of-12 attempts. Gray de Sanders showed good handles, showed an ability to break down defenders off the dribble, and applied constant pressure in the paint. While she is known for her defensive presence, her scoring was much needed and proved to be the difference in the game.     Williams delivered a powerful performance for Centennial and was the clear leader for her team throughout the contest. The athletic forward consistently attacked the rim, scored in transition, and battled aggressively on the boards. Williams opened the second half with back-to-back steals and coast-to-coast finishes and continued to fight for scoring opportunities even as Doral extended its lead. Her combination of strength, athleticism, and versatility allowed her to impact the game both offensively and defensively while serving as the primary spark for Centennial. Hall finished with monster-numbers - 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals.     Mercredi delivered one of the most complete performances of the game, dominating the glass and impacting nearly every phase of play. The forward grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds while also contributing nine points and facilitating the offense with four assists. The forward also stepped behind the arc and calmly knocked down a top of the key three pointer. Mercredi's length and defensive instincts were on display as she protected the rim and altered shots in the paint. She worked in sync with Hall in the middle and shut the middle down. Her ability to rebound, defend, and initiate transition made her a key factor in Winter Haven controlling the tempo and ultimately advancing to the championship.     Myers played a crucial role as the energy, glue, and hustle player for Doral. The forward impacted the game in multiple ways, running the floor in transition, battling on the boards, and creating extra possessions with her activity. Myers also displayed versatility with her ability to "grab and go." She was very effective at rebounding, pushing the ball in transition and distributing to teammates. One of the most impressive moments came when she grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast before dishing to a perimeter player for the three. Her relentless effort and willingness to do the little things helped keep Doral's momentum rolling throughout the game.     Hall anchored Winter Haven's defensive presence in the paint with a dominant shot-blocking performance. The forward recorded four blocks and six rebounds, but her impact extended beyond the stat sheet. Hall consistently protected the rim, altering numerous additional attempts and forcing opponents to think twice before attacking the basket. Her length, timing, and defensive instincts allowed her to control the interior and disrupt Ocoee's offensive rhythm throughout the game. Hall's ability to contest shots and defend the paint was a major factor in the game against an opponent who was a get down hill- rim attacking team.     Fortius was one of the most productive players for Ocoee, providing a strong presence in the paint on both ends of the floor. The forward finished with a team-high 10 points while pulling down nine rebounds, consistently battling inside against Winter Haven's size. Fortius showed good touch on a pull-up jumper from the top of the key and remained active on the glass throughout the game. Her ability to rebound and score in traffic helped keep Ocoee competitive in what turned into a defensive battle.
