This match featured a number of 2023 prospects who are looking to see a big recruiting boost during their respective junior years. Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look at the standouts from the second game of day one.
Caroline Thiel (Rocky Mount 2023 guard/forward)
Although outside shots came at a premium, 2023 prospect Caroline Thiel found a way to impact the game with 13 points for the Gryphons. She was able to get into the paint several times creating shots for herself and her teammates. Thiel is an efficient player on both ends of the floor and will be a key piece of this team going into their conference slate.
Nyla Powell (Rocky Mount 2023 forward)
The Gryphons have a number of skilled post players who can finish on the inside and one of them is Nyla Powell. She also had 13 points for Rocky Mount dominating the paint despite giving up size against Broughton’s post players. Whenever a guard made a drive into the paint, Powell was ready to catch and finish making a huge difference in this contest.
Shilyia Williams (Rocky Mount 2023 forward)
Shilyia Williams set the tone with 18 points for the Gryphons making play after play on the inside to get her team going. She won on the offensive glass creating extra possessions for her team to build their lead. Williams had a number of post moves at her disposal putting on a great display against a good Capitals team. With this trio in their frontcourt along with some talented guards, Rocky Mount could be a big player in the 3-A East this season.
Madison Walpole (Broughton 2023 guard)
The go to scoring option for the Capitals throughout this game was 2023 guard Madison Walpole who has great mechanics on her jump shot. She handles the ball well and makes the right reads whenever she runs the offense. Alongside 2024 guard Kalajah Wright, this duo will be one of the best in Raleigh and they’ll need to be in a challenging conference.
