Continue ReadingWilson Prep continued their dominant start to the season with a 75-33 conference win over a Warren County squad that was previously undefeated. The Tigers are one of the top teams in the 1-A East this season and have a trio of guards that all have possibilities of playing at the next level. Despite the Eagles best efforts, the visitors overwhelmed them with their pressure defense and potent offense. Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look at the standouts from this contest.
Jamaria Freeman (Wilson Prep 2025 guard)
The first of the Wilson Prep guard trio is freshman Jamaria Freeman who can play both on and off the ball for the Tigers. She can blow past defenders with ease, create space with her dribble, and finish in traffic with the best of them. Freeman finished with a triple double: 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 steals for the Tigers in this contest. She had a great run with the Carolina Flames during the AAU season and it’s translated into a great start during her first high school basketball campaign.
Jayla Hicks (Wilson Prep 2025 guard)
Jayla Hicks’ ability to beat defenders off the dribble and attack the basket are another pair of reasons that this Tigers team will be tough to defend as the season progresses. She finished with eight points, five rebounds, and five steals while doing all the little things to help the Tigers grow their lead in the early stages of the game.
Madison Pounds (Wilson Prep 2024 guard)
Madison Pounds is a name college coaches need to get familiar with as shes poised for a breakout sophomore season. Pounds led the way with 29 points for the Tigers in this contest leading the way on both ends of the floor. Her pressure defense against Warren County’s guards led to turnovers and fast break chances early and often. She can finish in the paint, knock down mid-range and three-point shots, and is one of the best passers in Eastern North Carolina.
Silence Davis (Wilson Prep 2024 forward)
Wilson Prep has a terrific guard trio, but Silence Davis is not to be looked over as the anchor of the Tigers defense. She can also fill up the stat sheet scoring 20 points to help this high powered Wilson Prep team score in a hurry. Davis protects the rim, rebounds at a high rate, and handles the ball well for her size. She’s a matchup problem for most defense because she can create separation off the dribble against any defender.
Nakira Bullock (Warren County 2022 guard)
Warren County has a really good unsigned senior guard in Nakira Bullock. Despite being shaded by multiple defenders throughout the game, she was still able to carry the Eagles scoring over half of her teams 33 points. Bullock can get to the basket and finish in traffic at a high level and is capable of playing at the next level. College coaches should look out for Bullock as the season progresses.
