I headed over to South Plantation High School for Wednesday’s action of the Broward County Athletic Association Big 8 Tournament. Here is a quick look at the scores: Western 71, Cardinal Gibbons 50 St. Thomas Aquinas 57, Flanagan 5 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91572" first="Breanna" last="Gustave"] scored 13 points in the nightcap. The 5-foot-7 guard did a good job scoring around the rim off rebounds. Furthermore, Gustave created space and was able to go back up with relative ease. She also knocked down a wing 3-pointer. Gustave is a good player all-around. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="91641" first="Karina" last="Gordon"] finished with a team-high 15 points. I thought the 5-foot-8 combo guard had her jumper working in this one. Gordon also scored off steals in transition. Overall, her quickness and scoring ability from the free-throw line to the perimeter is effective. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"] did her best work protecting the rim with rebounds and rejections. She left some buckets off the stat sheet and finished with 7 points. Anything in her vicinity was getting swatted or corralled for a rebound. Her size and length will be called upon more as we go deeper into this tournament. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="153108" first="Taja" last="Stephens"] scored a game-high 27 points and hit five 3-pointers over Cardinal Gibbons. The 5-foot-8 guard was a three-level scorer as I expected. I thought Stephens took quality shots and let the game come to her. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="248419" first="Chloe" last="Celler"] had 15 points and 2023 Alessandra Conrad added 13 for Cardinal Gibbons. Taking St. Thomas Aquinas out of it, I thought 2024 Azarriah Brown and 2023 captain Infinity Thomas showed some skill. Brown has some handle and is quick in the backcourt. She came into the game averaging over nine points and nearly three steals per game. Thomas scored four of Flanagan’s points around the paint.
