As a coach, it gives me goosebumps to think about how I would use these players, who I would match them up against, what type of defenses would I run, etc. Jim Dabbelt, Haleigh Behnken, and I each took different teams from Classic in the City to come up with our own All-Star squad.
The first player I would pick, has to be McDonald’s All- American and future Oregon Duck, Chance Gray Chance Gray 5'9" | PG Winton Woods | 2022 State #40 Nation OH , the 5’11 guard from Winton Woods. There isn’t a shot she can’t shoot! Her shots from downtown are money! Defensively, she can put on a show, with her tight, aggressive style of play.
My next player comes from Canada, Dominique Ennis, a 5’8 senior from Kings Christian. This future Rice University guard can flat out go! Beautiful handles, love her cross over moves, and she can score against anybody. She can hit from outside, or make inside shots with multiple defenders hovering over her. Plays with such smooth control. (Seen below, with ball)
Then I would add Cate Schieber Cate Schieber 5'9" | CG Granville | 2022 State OH , a 5’9 senior guard, from Granville High School. This future Belmont Abbey star can light it up from deep, and knows how to involve her teammates! Her fundamentals are outstanding! Defensively, this young lady can jump and block with no problem! She hustles on every possession! (Seen below, blocking a shot)
Next on my squad would be Tessa Grady Tessa Grady 6'2" | SG Dublin Coffman | 2023 State OH , a 6’2 junior who plays guard/ forward, for Dublin Coffman High School. College coaches are really getting to know her these last few months- simply because she is dominating the court with her offensive skills, and ability to block and defend. She handles the ball well, with pretty moves in the paint. Deadly outside shooter! (Below, on defense).
When I watched Nyla, I knew she had to be on my Dream Team! Nyla Walker Nyla Walker 5'6" | PG Example Academy | 2022 State IL , a 5’6 senior guard from Example Academy (IL), has such a strong presence on the court. Her lightening speed, and ability to get up and down the court is impressive. Defensively she sticks to her opponent, and picks pockets all day long. Offensively, she shoots with confidence, and has a pretty stroke. (Seen below, with ball)
And last but certainly not least, I have to have, as Dick Vitale loves to call outstanding freshman- Diaper Dandies, I gotta have [player_tooltip player_id=”360697″ first=”Darriana” last=”Alexander”], a 6’1 guard from Purcell Marian High School. Folks, if you want to watch the best freshman in the country, she’s right here! I’ve been around basketball for a long time, and have had the honor of playing against some of the best in the country- and this young lady right here, is special. Her athleticism, calmness, the way she leads by example on the floor, and her skills are elite. (Featured Photo, with ball).
