Today I want to highlight guards I haven’t talked enough about over the past few months. These four players all bring something specific that I believe would help a team at the next level. These players aren’t in any particular order.
Amayiah Neilon Amayiah Neilon 5'7" | PG Greenfi | 2023 WI -5’5-’23-Greenfield
The Greenfield junior is a tough lead guard who takes care of the ball. Neilon plays on a Hustlin’ Hawks team who need her to balance her scoring and facilitating, and she does it as well as anyone. The junior always seems to be around the ball. Neilon has affected every aspect of the game for her team the last few seasons. I have no way of sorting this data, but I’d assume that not many players average 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Players like Neilon elevate good teams to being great teams.
Kacy Eggebrecht-5’5-’24-Phillips
The sophomore guard is the younger sister of St. Cloud State commit Jada Eggebrecht Jada Eggebrecht 5'10" | CG Phillips | 2022 State WI . In her first season and a half, the younger Ebbebrecht has made a name for herself. The sophomore Logger has done an excellent job as a secondary playmaker and has done a great job scoring in the paint. Defensively, the sophomore has made an impact earning 7.9 steals per game, good enough for sixth-best in the state. The future is bright for the Loggers with the younger Ebbebrecht. However, there is room to improve as well. I don’t believe that Eggebrecht is a 14% 3-point shooter. Her 78% free-throw percentage suggests that she is better than what she’s shown. If her shooting improves, Eggebrecht could excel in the North Central Region.
Hattie Fox Hattie Fox 5'9" | CG Osceola | 2023 State WI -5’10-’23-Osecola
Last night Fox scored her 1,000th point for Osceola in just 57 games. Since Fox’s freshman season, she has gotten better and better. It has been a steady rise for Fox, and right now, as a junior, she has scored 24.5 points per game. That average is good enough for No. 10 in Wisconsin. Even just looking at her jumper from her freshman season to her junior season, you see the time she’s devoted to getting better. Players like Fox who want to get better are players I adore. When Fox got to high school, her team went 7-16. This season she has her team at 10-3. I believe many schools could do with Hattie Fox Hattie Fox 5'9" | CG Osceola | 2023 State WI on their roster in 2023.
Reese Rogowski-5’8-’23-Wittenberg-Birnamwood
The Chargers junior has proven to be a talented all-around offensive guard. Rogowski is currently No. 10 in Wisconsin in assists, with 6.1 per game. Rogowski has averaged 18 points, showing her ability as a scorer. Rogowski has become one of the most interesting statistical cases in Wisconsin. A player who has shown to be a good scorer and facilitator tends to be a player who schools will carefully monitor. I’m not sure where her next step in basketball is, but I’m a believer in her game and will be keeping tabs on her.
