This non-region matchup was staunchly all Generals as head coach Chris Pouyat’s team claimed an emphatic 70-37 victory over head coach Aaron Johnson’s Cavaliers.
Prep Girls Hoops was on site at the St. Johns’s Christian Academy campus in Moncks Corner for Thursday evening’s contest. Here are a few notes and takeaways to consider after the game.
A Promising Start …
If one had to judge how the game would conclude by how it began, it would have boded well for the homestanding Cavaliers. St. John’s Christian Academy raced out to an early 11-1 lead that was fueled primarily by the Cavaliers ability to sink its 3-point shots.
St. John’s Christian Academy sank four triples in the first quarter and went the rest of the game without a made shot from downtown until late in the fourth quarter.
That opening stanza was also when Cathedral Academy began blazing what would be a ferocious comeback trail as that 11-1 deficit was trimmed down to two at the end of the first half when the Cavaliers’ lead was only 16-14.
A Thin Bench …
Cathedral Academy was barely able to field enough players to put together a starting five, but was operating with a very thin bench as the lone player on said bench was Lauryn LaCoss (2025).
LaCoss managed to score four points – all of which occurred in the second half after the game was already put well out of reach.
November 30
This was the last time these two teams met up and it also resulted in a Generals victory as Cathedral Academy defended its home court by virtue of a 54-24 win over St. John’s Christian Academy.
