With The 2021-22 playoffs coming up in a few days, I’m excited to list a few teams I feel will make big waves in this years brackets. I will break down the top three who I feel has the chance to go deep and make a run for a title. Class 1A is full of young talent right now. Many familiar faces look to return to the dance. Here’s the rundown.

In 1A the three teams that stand out to me are MMCRU 20-0, Newell-Fonda, and Baxter at 21-0. The Royals ladies finished the season undefeated. Led by seniors [player_tooltip player_id="63622" first="Emily" last="Dreckman"] and [player_tooltip player_id="63616" first="Ellie" last="Hilbrands"], and [player_tooltip player_id="129081" first="Taylor" last="Harpenau"]. I feel MMCRU will be way to strong and run through nicely for a bid to state. All three are 1000 point scorers. The Trio has been playing together summers in AAU ball since the 4th grade for United Girls Academy. I see the royals going very deep in 1A and they are one of my top three favorites to win the class this year. They have a chemistry I feel is unmatched in 1A right now.

Everybody excpects Newell-Fonda to reach the finals. They have a strong tradition of basketball at Newell Fonda. Head coach Dick Jungers has a amazing program. A consistant 20 game winner. The mustangs are loaded with strong young talent. Maggie Walker is a walking bucket. Senior [player_tooltip player_id="129006" first="Macy" last="Sievers"], and super sophmore [player_tooltip player_id="314161" first="McKenna" last="Sievers"] both help lead a strong group this year. They know how to put the ball in the bucket. They lead the whole state in points scored. It will take a strong defensive effort from their opponents to get an upset this year.

I always like to include a sleeper team I feel will make big waves in the tournament. This year I like the Baxter Bolts to look to upset some big teams once they make it thru their region. Baxters defense is super impressive to me. Baxter is 4th in all classes in steals and play an intense style of basketball. They don’t let up and push the pace well the whole game. Seniors Lilie Vansice and [player_tooltip player_id="163342" first="Elie" last="Tuhn"] lead the way for the bolts. Vansice an is strong. Tuhn played her AAU ball with Iowa Intensity this summer and lead the way this season in scoring for the bolts. Tuhn's pressure is what you love to see in a player. She hustles hard on both sides of the court and has an unmatched intensity. Future star freshman Emie Tuhn had a huge season and will be a problem for many years to come. One of the top freshman in the state unranked.

Follow me on Twitter and Instagram for future stars across the state of Iowa @CoachRiddle32 with your predictions for the next few classes.
