I enjoyed watching another Iowa Girls High School State Tournament this week. I've covered them in-person periodically since showing up for the first time at The Barn in 1998.

It's a show, it really is. I love all of the state tournaments, but there's something about girls state basketball. More than 100 years of history oozes out of every pore, new lore being added each year, as we witnessed once again.

Fierce competitors leaving their athletic souls on the court in pursuing the sport's pinnacle led to great games throughout the week. If you're only focusing on the end of one Class 4A semifinal, as amazing at it was, you're overlooking wonderful basketball moments. So many teams and individuals shined on the biggest stage.

Let's highlight some of them by having some fun looking back and choosing an Elite All-State Tournament Team, the best across all classes.

ELITE TEAM CAPTAIN

[player_tooltip player_id='557354' first='Jenica' last='Lewis'], 2026, G, Johnston

A compelling case can be made for several student-athletes, whom you'll read about below on the first-team. The case for Lewis is rock solid, however. First, the Notre Dame commitment is the best player on the state's best team. Johnston finishes the season with a three-peat in 5A and the country's longest winning streak (79). The Dragons are 103-2 during her time in the purple and gold, playing in the state championship game all four years.

What made Lewis special and what led to so many wins was trusting her teammates. Usually the most gifted player on the court, she believes in the talent around her instead of hunting shots or seeking personal glory. But, make no mistake, when it was winning time, No. 10 was delivering.

That was the case in Friday night's title tilt with a formidable Waukee Northwest squad. The Wolves jumped out to an 11-6 lead midway through the first quarter. Johnston's offense was stagnant. It was obvious that the Dragons would need Lewis to score in this one.

The smooth operater sank a silky three-pointer before converting a lay-up off of a stop. The game was tied. Northwest punched back with a trey, but Lewis came up with a conventional three-point play to tie it again. She knocked down another triple as Johnston closed the first quarter with a five-point lead.

The Dragons settled in from there with Lewis continuing to burn the opposition. She finished with a game-high 22 points and was second on the team with seven rebounds. Her 4 of 8 shooting from behind the arc opened up the court for the offense.

Every year, a select few are inducted into the state's hall of fame at the tournament. This week was the cherry on top of Lewis' sure-fire candidacy.

FIRST-TEAM

[player_tooltip player_id='502100' first='Macy' last='Comito'], 2026, G, Carlisle

Iowa State commitment scored an all-time 4A best 42 points in a semifinal upset of Bishop Heelan before dropping 17 on Dallas Center-Grimes in winning the championship game.

[player_tooltip player_id='435773' first='Cora' last='Widel'], 2026, F, Maquoketa

Cardinal senior was great in leading program to first state title; especially clutch in beating defending state champion Mount Vernon in title contest, scoring 21 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the floor, 3 of 4 on threes and 6 of 6 from the foul line.

[player_tooltip player_id='582807' first='Haevyn' last='Ranschau'], 2026, G, Rock Valley

Second-seeded Rock Valley used a balanced attack throughout its run to the 2A title but leaned heavily on Ranschau during the championship game win against Hinton. The senior's 29 points were fueled by 9 of 15 shooting from behind the arc.

[player_tooltip player_id='1238114' first='Quinn' last='Sievers'], 2029, G, Newell-Fonda

And a freshman shall lead them. Sievers looked nothing like a ninth-grader in breaking down opponents with a tight handle, unusual quickness and poise. She came off of the bench to average 17.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.7 steals this week.

[player_tooltip player_id='777232' first='Melina' last='Snoozy'], 2027, G, Bishop Heelan

Despite a disappointing end to what was otherwise a super season for the Crusaders, Snoozy was electric in Des Moines this week. The junior set a then-4A record with 39 points in the quarterfinals before netting 27 (11-14 FG, 4-6 3PT) in semis.

SECOND-TEAM

[player_tooltip player_id='883552' first='Braylyn' last='Birmingham'], 2028, G Norwalk

[player_tooltip player_id='957840' first='Savanna' last='Wright'], 2028, G Mount Vernon

[player_tooltip player_id='920715' first='Emily' last='Tanny'], 2029, F, Dubuque Wahlert

[player_tooltip player_id='644557' first='Ari' last='Phillips'], 2027, G, Johnston

[player_tooltip player_id='582813' first='Ellie' last='Muller'], 2026, F, Dowling Catholic
