2023 Rankings Update: Top Wings

After our latest 2023 rankings update, here’s a look at some of the top wings in the Junior class. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="164385" first="Timberlynn" last="Yeast"] | Mercer County</strong> I remember watching Yeast play a few years ago and I was blown away to learn that she was only an 8th grader at the time because she was out there leading a very skilled team as a middle schooler. And as you’d expect, she’s only gotten better and elevated her game to new levels since then. What I find most impressive about Yeast is that she is an extremely high-level player and yet, she is one of the most team-oriented players I’ve watched. She’s so unselfish with the ball and she drops absolute dimes to her teammates. She finishes so well and can really score at will. Top 15 scorer in the state and top 50 in field goal percentage. Defensively, she’s a stud. Deflections, steals, blocks - she is elite in all categories. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="164392" first="Abby" last="Holtman"] | Ryle</strong> You know when a coach yells "she’s a shooter" to his or her team to let them know they need to get out on that player and not let them shoot? Well, Holtman probably hears that about 50 times every game because she is an elite shooter and it doesn’t take much for her to get her shot off. If her defender is even one step off of her, she’s open. She’s got a high release and great size/length which makes it really hard for anyone to block her shot. She’s got great ball handling skills and is a good passer as well. Defensively, she’s excellent at reading the passing lanes and getting steals. Holtman is top 20 in the state in 3-point field goals and free throw percentage. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="173759" first="Kensley" last="Feltner"] | Lawrence County</strong> Feltner is the kind of player that instantly grabs your attention when you watch her play. She is <em>the</em> top scorer in the state and to make that stat even more impressive, she’s also top 50 in field goal percentage. Throughout 33 games this season, she has been able to produce numbers that some players can’t produce throughout their entire high school career. Feltner is the total package. She is a fantastic passer and teammate, she can score from anywhere on the court, and she is a great rebounder. Physical, tough, and strong. Great moves, including in the post when she has a mis-match. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="158174" first="Destiny" last="Thomas"] | McCracken County</strong> Thomas is a super smooth player. After missing last season with an ACL injury, she has come back and led her team to a 29-1 record thus far. She’s got a high basketball IQ and is such an efficient scorer. Thomas is also in the top 50 for field goal percentage and points per game this season. Good shooter. She makes really good moves to the basket and knows when to shoot a floater, when to go all the way to the hoop, or when to kick to a teammate. Finishes with both hands and through contact. Extremely athletic and uses that to her advantage on the defensive end. Great length and strength. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="164394" first="Clara" last="Collins"] | South Laurel</strong> Collins is an excellent shooter, especially from deep. She’s in the top 25 for 3-point field goals this season. Collins can score on the inside as well, both by getting to the rim or by utilizing post moves. She’s got great length that she uses to block shots and come up with steals. She plays extremely hard, especially on the boards. She not only follows her own shot well, but she’s good at reading where other players shots are going to come off and follows those shots also. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="164406" first="Amy" last="Thompson"] | Whitefield Academy</strong> Thompson is a very versatile player that has really good size. She can play almost any position on the floor on both the offensive and defensive end. She stays active when she’s on the floor and does a good job of shifting when she sees a teammate driving in the area she’s in. Great passer and can handle the ball. Thompson works extremely hard when she’s on the floor. She’s a great rebounder and has excellent hands on defense. She only got to play the 2nd half of the season due to transferring and having to wait for the KHSAA to rule her eligible, but she still managed to earn a spot on the 1st team all-region. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="199618" first="Keelee" last="King"] | Rockcastle County</strong> King is a fantastic 3-point shooter who, unfortunately, only got to play in the first 10 games of her junior season before suffering a knee injury. In her sophomore season, King finished as the state’s leading 3 point shooter at 46.3% and she was on track to remain a leader in 3-pointers, as well as free throws prior to her injury. She is great at catching and shooting, but she also has the ability to drive and get to the rim. She constantly works to find the gaps to get open as opposing teams often focus on not letting her get off shots from deep. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="200347" first="Adylan" last="Ayer"] | Daviess County</strong> Ayer is really good on both ends of the court. The effort and work she puts in instantly shine when you watch her play. She's quick and she moves so well without the ball. She's an excellent shooter and she can shoot off of the dribble or catch. She is good with the ball and can handle pressure. She makes some great passes as well. On the other end, Ayer is a very solid defender and does a great job of crashing the boards.
