HONORABLE MENTIONS
Indya Davis Indya Davis 5'9" | SG West Bloomfield | 2024 State MI (2024, SG, West Bloomfield)
Davis is as rock solid as they come as far as defenders in the class of 2024. She can go toe to toe with any wing in the state. Davis can play in your face D as well as play the passing lanes.
Tayla Dillard Tayla Dillard 5'10" | CG Kalamazoo Central | 2024 State MI (2024, CG, Kalamazoo Central)
The Dillard family is developing a reputation as defenders. She appears to be following in the footsteps of Thomas Dillard IV, who’s a top defender on the boys side. Dillard is a long and athletic defender that can cover multiple positions.
Faith Jungwirth Faith Jungwirth 6'0" | SF Lansing Catholic | 2024 State MI (2024, F, Okemos)
If you’ve read my writing, you probably know how high I am on Jungwirth’s potential. Defense is a large part of that and I think she’s very underrated on that end. She can outmuscle and outmaneuver most of her opponents.
Christian Sanders Christian Sanders 5'7" | PG Detroit Renaissance | 2024 State MI (2024, PG, Detroit Renaissance)
I absolutely love the way Sanders approaches playing defense. In typical Detroit Renaissance style, she can defend the entire length of the floor. Sanders has great defensive footwork and her lateral quickness is a huge asset on D.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Gabrielle Reynolds Gabrielle Reynolds 5'10" | PG West Ottawa | 2024 State MI (2024, PG, West Ottawa)
Reynolds is flat out elite when it comes to perimeter defense. She doesn’t just quarterback her team on the offensive end of the floor, but does on the defensive end as well. Reynolds uses her high basketball IQ to put herself in position to make plays on the defensive end. She communicates with her teammates and has a feel for where they should be. West Ottawa is going to win a lot of games with Reynolds leading the way on defense. As just a sophomore, the best is yet to come.
