Athletes Canada 2026 traveled to Illinois to compete in the Prep Girls Hoops circuit’s season premiere, and the team showed a lot of development and excellent play over the weekend. The team consists of eight players from the 2026 class, one from the 2027 class, and even two from the 2028 class. In the regular 2026 age group, that would be sixth graders playing up two years.
While the squad finished 1-3 over the weekend, they are a group of young women with a strong work ethic and a passion for the game.
Several players that impressed the PGH scouts were all players with promising prospects with this squad and in the future. Rebecca Kelley is a 5-8 2026 forward with a high basketball motor who has the potential to develop into a very good player if she continues to improve her game. She’s still a work in progress, but once she matures and polishes her skills, she’ll be a force to be reckoned with. She can rebound effectively and make a strong move to the rim.
Another player with good skills is 5-6 2026 Danielle Oz, who can put the ball in the basket and can get to the hoop with ease. She’s a good free throw shooter and a graceful player. She can also play with contact.
Jasmine Macatangay,5-4, 2026 guard who is a pure shooter with a good shot from the perimeter and isn’t afraid to let it fly. As her game progresses, it’s all about reps and getting in the gym for her.
One of the more impressive players seen in the tournament was 5-9 2028 Rachael Keenan, a player who while only in the sixth grade, has nicely developed skills and has no problems playing alongside the older girls on the court. She has a mature game, good quick moves to the rim and plays under control. She has good body control and can play solid defense.
Another under the radar player with a possible good future in the game is 5-5 2026 Keianna Cambridge.
