I don’t know but to me, it’s always about progression as well as taking games to another level, and let me say this, I was overly impressed with these young ladies who have either battled back from minor injuries or just added even more to their impressive games, and always remember two very important things, I am not a novice at doing this and there is no me so here we go
Kimora McClure (Weiss HS) Competitive Edge 2023 [2023]
McClure has that SWB acronym, speed with ball, yet her progression at being under control definitely stood out. I’m going on a limb and saying she’s one of the fastest guards with the ball in the state and trust me, that limb can hold some weight but watching her not only blow by defenders in the open court, just get back, but off the dribble to dish or finish just had me going but the icing on the cake was her pull-up jumper from midrange as well as the stop and pop in transition
Tyanna Simpson (Killeen HS) Competitive Edge 2023 [2023]
Simpson has taken her game up levels galore every year since I caught her before high school and that DESIRE to go after the ball off the rim is simply something you can’t teach. I threw the “T” up several times, refs thought I was giving a TECH yet it was for her “work ethic” and battling for loose balls on the floor yet she attacked from the wing with confidence and shot the midrange well but then she just dropped the mic and showed the long ball, I see ya been working T
Emillia Steele Emillia Steele 5'11" | SF Colleyville Heritage | 2023 State TX (Colleyville Heritage HS) HG Elite 2023 S40 [2023]
Steele earned that “woman of STEELE” award a long time ago yet watching her play earlier in the school season after a minor injury, I knew even KRYPTONITE wouldn’t keep her grounded so the bits and pieces she showed back then have come full circle and to say she’s back would be an understatement so I’ll say “she’s back with a vengeance” and her college-ready body, her playing under control as well as her skill set all looked great. She finished around the basket as well as facing the basket yet her defense and rebounding on both ends were over and beyond
Rebecca Meyer Rebecca Meyer 5'11" Klein Cain | 2023 TX (Klein Cain) Houston United 2023 [2023]
Meyer was told by yours truly to get more aggressive, okay-check the front-page photo of her battling 3 players for a rebound, she got the message yet she also sent me some messages and not subliminally as she made several next-level moves from the wing off the dribble to score. Here’s the deal, she’s long, has good athleticism, and plays within herself, yet her ability to score around the basket under pressure was huge over the weekend as her team had only 7 players. She also did a good job on the defensive end, even showed good timing to block shots
Allyson Reese (Summer Creek HS) Houston United 2023 [2023]
Reese’s pieces are coming together as I threw the two fingers up watching her attack the basket relentlessly from a variety of angles to finish. Her first step is very nice, she’s strong and athletic, her body control enabled her to get numerous “and one” opportunities but even more importantly was she mixed it up with the jumper as well as seeing the floor but her defense, especially “on the ball” created numerous problems and caused several turnovers, I was thinking apple
