Guard: Anastyn Pettlon-Kansas Elite
The Kansas elite guard quickly became one of my favorite kids to watch. Pettlon was a vocal leader, organized her team’s offense and defense, and possesses one of the highest Basketball IQs I’ve seen since joining PGH last August. I lead with her intangibles to follow up with her technical ability on the floor. The guard has a way of taking advantage of any weakness that a defense possesses. If a team plays off on Pettlon, she’ll make perimeter shots. If defenses play a drop in the pick and roll, she’ll get into her mid-range/floater game. To add to what she can do, she plays excellent defense at the point of attack. In my time seeing hundreds of players, Pettlon is one of the kids that will stand out for years to come.
Guard: Bryar Duwe Bryar Duwe 5'7" | PG Decorah | 2023 State IA -Iowa Prep
The Truman State commit was excellent, especially as a lead ball handler. Her ability to consistently get by the initial defender creates advantages almost every time down the floor. That advantage inevitably gets her team open looks, and that is what she did when I saw her play in Omaha. Duwe is the kind of kid who doesn’t seem like she breaks a sweat when she’s on the floor. She makes everything looks easy.
Guard: Emma Slings Emma Slings 5'9" | PG Jefferson | 2023 State IA -Team Iowa
I talk awhile about anything but her offense because she does so much on the other end. She’s willing to put her body on the line to win AAU games. I can only imagine what she looks like in high school games. In multiple transition opportunities for the other team, Slings took charges where she got run over. There’s something about kids who have the will to win and does everything to accomplish that is endearing, and Slings is all that.
Forward: Lauren Golinghorst-Team Iowa
I loved the aggression that Golinghorst played with early and often. She found ways to get scoring opportunities by getting to the free-throw line multiple times. As a 6-foot forward who has some guard skills, Golinghorst is not an easy defensive assignment for anyone. There are areas of her game that can improve, but there is plenty in her game that makes me believe she’ll excel at the next level.
Forward: Hannah Nadgwick Hannah Nadgwick 5'11" | C Elkhorn North | 2023 State NE -Omaha Supreme
The aspect that I liked about Nadgwick’s game is how she uses her athleticism and strength on both ends of the floor. She started a game with a blocked shot and an aggressive drive to the basket for a layup. At that point, I knew that she was someone I’d like. She dominated the area around the basket and used her skillset to overwhelm her opposition and lead her team to a victory.
