The inaugural ranking for the 2024 Class was released in May, and now we will share with you some of the guards that you may or may not have heard of. I promise you if you go see them play, you will agree that they are flying under the radar but will be big time at their respective schools in the upcoming scholastic season.
[player_tooltip player_id="382423" first="Zamyra" last="Goode"] | 5-6 CG | Bob Jones. I first saw this kid play in the NW Regional Finals and was very impressed with her poise in the game. Zamyra was that coach on the floor, played with high energy and a great defender. She currently plays on the PGH Circuit in the 17U division, getting double teamed on most of her team’s offensive possessions, then finding that open teammate for a score. Her team was the number one seeded team into the PGH Triumph Regional Finals. Zamyra has to be a top guards in travel ball season and making a name for herself.
[player_tooltip player_id="373862" first="Serena" last="Hardy"] | 5-5 PG | Anniston. I observed Serena playing in the NE regional semi-final, and was an instant fan of this kid. She was controlling her team’s offense and game flow. Serena was not afraid to drive to the basketball once given that space, but if her defender gave up space she was going to shoot. They didn’t win that game, but you could see the fire in Serena’s eye; they will be back. Looking forward to seeing her play this summer.
[player_tooltip player_id="381452" first="Erin" last="Martin"] | 5-11 CG | Brewtech. After finally seeing Erin play in person, all I can say is wow! She has the total package; height, IQ and passion. Making shots when needed by her team, moving well without the ball and being there on defense when her team needed her. I saw her shoot that mid range, driving to the basket as well as crashing the boards for those rebounds. Look for current ranking of #17 to change in our upcoming updated rankings.
[player_tooltip player_id="323400" first="Gracie" last="Rowell"] | 5-7 CG | Skyline. Gracie, the daughter of a coach, has that learned IQ from just being around the game since a young age. She is a shooter, that if she is left open with make you pay. Gracie has been a varsity starter since 7th grade. The sky is the limited for her in the next couple of years.
[player_tooltip player_id="323408" first="XaiOnna" last="Whitfield"]. | 5-10 F | Oxford. Another kid that I saw play in the AHSAA Finals this past March, and she was everything I had heard about. XaiOnna moved well without the ball and makes herself available, with the ball she attacks the basket and with contact she will score. On defense she reads the floor very well, and with that length is a great defender, where XaiOnna goes from here is going to be scary.
