Continue ReadingThe guard position was in good hands at Ball’in In the Bay. Whether the guards were shooting threes (and there were a lot of them raining), making beautiful passes, stealing the ball, or setting up the offenses, they did a nice job playing the position. This article focuses on the Sophomore guards who played well and had some really special moments at the tournament.
Kennedy Rosendahl Kennedy Rosendahl 5'6" | SG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL (ECU 2024 Clarke/ PGH #73) shot the cover off the ball at Ballin In the Bay. Shooting is what she is known for. She knocked down over 73 threes in her Sophomore season. Rosendahl approached double digits in this tournament. The Sophomore has one of the smoothest shots on the first coast and she is one of the most accurate shooters as well. In this tournament, Rosendahl took her defense to another level. She was ripping anyone who tried to penetrate her team’s defense. There was one play that stands out. Rosendahl stretched out and intercepted inbounds pass as she is about to fall down. She then throws it to a teammate and retreats to the open area on the court. The ball eventually makes its way to the corner and Rosendahl calmly knocks down the three-pointer. It’s a play worthy of ESPY considerations. That defensive intensity was prevalent all weekend and Rosendahl played with a toughness that was on a different level. Offensively, She went deeper into the tool bag and showed that she can shoot off the dribble, can get to the basket on hesitation moves, spin moves, and dribble drives. She also showcased her float game with left and right-hand floaters. Rosendahl will likely set records in threes before she leaves Ponte Vedra High School.
Hannah Bittner Hannah Bittner 5'9" | CG Episcopal School of Jacksonville | 2024 State FL (ECU Clarke 2024/ PHG #98)) did a lot of nice things on the court. She is very athletic and has good speed on the court. Her speed carries over to ger defense and is very noticeable in the press. Offensively, she can shoot the three and is very good with the mid-range jumper. She does a good job of getting to the basket and a very good job of getting to the foul line.
Kiyana Hunter Kiyana Hunter 5'3" | PG Mandarin | 2024 State FL (ECU Clarke 2024/ PGH #113) did some nice things over the weekend. Her three-point shot was potent over the weekend and at one time she knocked down three straight, including one behind the “four-point” line. This past weekend Hunter was spot on shooting threes connecting on 6 threes pointers and shooting over 50 percent from behind the arc. Hunter showed that she can get to the basket if given a crease. She plays with good speed on the court and is very fast in short spaces. Defensively Hunter has very active hands and gets her share of deflections and steals. In one sequence over the weekend, Hunter had three consecutive steals and a few assists after the takeaways.
Taylor Perce Taylor Perce 5'10" | SG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL (ECU 2024 Clarke/ PGH #109). Perce continued to impress at Ballin In the Bay. She really showed her versatility at this tournament scoring on the inside and outside. Perce also showed great effort on the glass, pulling down offensive rebounds and recording a few putbacks as well. Offensively, she showed the ability to get to the rim on several drives and some were with her off-hand. Perce continued her shooting from the outside. Defensively, Perce is as equally versatile and played multiple positions playing the guard and forward positions. Her versatility makes her a tough opponent, and she is primed for a special season at Ponte Vedra High School.
Juliana Ferguson Juliana Ferguson 5'7" | CG River Ridge | 2024 State FL (Ultimate Warrior Pink/PGH #292) was solid all weekend long-running the point for the guard position. Ferguson ran the floor well and had some nice plays over the course of the two-day tournament. Ferguson did a good job of spreading the ball around. She is a smart player who relies on her basketball IQ on the court. She makes good basketball decisions on the court and seems to always know where to go with the ball. Ferguson can shoot the ball from behind the arc and can also score in the midrange area of the court. Defensively, she was very aggressive and made opposing guards work to get open and to get off shots.
Alla Oskarsdottir Alla Oskarsdottir 5'11" | PF LAKE HIGHLAND PREP | 2024 State FL , SG/SF (Nona, 2024/ PGH # 239). Oskarsdottir played well over the weekend and was really impressive in a lot of areas: rebounding, running the floor, getting to her shooting spots, and shooting the three. She really shoots the ball well from all over the court, including a nice jumper in the midrange area. Defensively, Oskarsdottir is versatile and at 5’11″ she plays at the shooting guard and forward positions. As a Sophomore, she averaged 8.4 points per game and knocked down 39 three-pointers. She averaged over 6 attempts per game and that speaks to the confidence in letting her shot fly. That trait was on display at Ballin in the Bay and look for it to propel her to a productive Junior campaign.
