The Generals and head coach Chris Pouyat hosted the Charleston Challenge on July 12. Among the teams that took part included the Generals themselves along with other Lowcountry teams such as Porter-Gaud, Oceanside Collegiate and St. John’s.
We at Prep Girls Hoops also made the trip down to the home of last season’s SCISA 1A runners-up to observe the proceedings. Here is a look at a few rising seniors and juniors that stood out that Tuesday.
Asa Snyder Asa Snyder 5'7" | SG Porter Gaud | 2023 State SC – 2023 – Porter-Gaud – During the offseason, Snyder typically wears the blue tint of TMP 17U Black, but got a chance to once again sport Cyclones maroon at the Charleston Challenge. Snyder can get a bit creative with her play in addition to draining her fair share of 3-point attempts. An effective and efficient scorer particularly from the perimeter, she will also bolster her team’s defensive efforts and haul in offensive rebounds. Snyder can turn those offensive boards into two-point putbacks and can also display how effective she is as a midrange jump shooter. With one season to go, she is poised to close her high school career with an exclamation point.
Kamiree McKnight – 2023 – St. John’s HS – All is right when McKnight is sporting the Islanders colors. McKnight shared team captaincy duties last season with fellow 2023 guard and forward Kayla Carry. Listed at 5-foot-5, she gives it her all on a game by game basis. McKnight is a backcourt stalwart who can put a number of points on the board and is every bit as efficient as a ball handler and ball distributor. Defensively, she can frustrate opposing ball carriers with the number of steals she compiles and is unafraid to draw contact and find herself at the free throw line.
Campbell Elizabeth Delaney Campbell Elizabeth Delaney 5'7" | SF Orangeburg Prep | 2023 State SC – 2023 – Orangeburg Prep – Delaney was one of the key factors in the Indians’ run to the 2A SCISA championship game last season. As a rising senior, she is back for more after nearly feeling SCISA glory at the Sumter Civic Center. As someone who can operate as either a guard or forward, she is versatile as an offensive player. She has scored many a point throughout her career – over 1,000 of them as she reached that lofty plateau last season. Delaney is also unafraid to play the game on contact as she is certainly willing to absorb said contact and get to the free throw line. Orangeburg Prep won runner-up at Tuesday’s tournament.
Leah Creaturo Leah Creaturo 5'9" | PF Porter Gaud | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Porter-Gaud – Creaturo is also sure to be part of a new look Cyclones squad that graduated a number of seniors from the 2021-22 version that had a 12-9 record (4-24 SCISA 3-AAA). After experience on Porter-Gaud’s junior varsity team, she has worked her way up to the varsity assembling. She is an efficient rebounder and scorer and it is complimented by the defensive plays she makes. Creaturo can be effective as a shot blocker. She has ran on the grassroots circuit with Coastal Select Basketball. Creaturo can drive to the rim against a number of defenders and will connect on jump shots from range.
