The 2025 season had a few players who really made an impact on the landscape of high school basketball in Jacksonville as Freshmen. Generally, Freshmen are expected to play their roles and make contributions wherever they can. A few of these players shredded the “role-player” tag and were MVPs of their respective teams. One player was even in the conversation for Class 4A player of the year.
Abby Knauff Abby Knauff 5'9" | SG Bolles | 2025 State FL / 5’9 SG / Bolles
It has been nearly one year since Knauff came on the high school scene and took the First Coast by surprise. Well, her skills were no surprise to one, who prognosticated that Knauff would lead her team in scoring and also in other statistical categories. That person was her head coach. Now, one year later, Knauff is recognized by many as one of the top Sophomores in the entire state of Florida. She was in the running for player of the year in high school basketball, averaging nearly 17 points per game, and finished the season with 53 three-pointers. In travel ball, she was even better. Knauff showed the entire package: exceptional three-point shooting, the ability to get to the rim, the ability to attack the basket, and the ability to score the basketball. She will likely be in the running again for player of the year in class 4A.
Lamiyah Hogans Lamiyah Hogans 5'10" | CG San Jose Prep | 2025 State FL / 5’10 Guard / San Jose Prep
Hogan was a three-point sniper at times last year. Last year’s performance comes to mind when she had at least 20 points in the first half against Bolles. Hogans also showcased her skills early on in travel ball with the 3-point shooting, the ability to get out in transition, and get on the glass and grab rebounds. Hogans has the ability to score the ball in a variety of ways, including mid-range jumpers, floaters, drives to the rim, and from the free-throw line. Hogans can also get to the basket and into the painted area. This past Spring in a memorial scholarship function that featured some of the top 2025s in the state, Hogans was awarded one of the players of the game. That’s something you will see lots of this upcoming season. Hogans is one of the best Sophomores on the First Coast and in the State.
Nina Kamma-Hill / 5’3 / Paxon
Kamma-Hill had a great Freshman season last year. The heart, the determination, and the skillset were at front and center, and these characteristics carried her to a very good Freshman season. Kamma-Hill is athletic, smart, and plays aggressively on the court. She does a good job of handling the ball and plays with a scorer’s mentality. She can shoot it from all areas of the court, including driving the ball to the basket. One impressive thing about Kamma-Hill is her ability to perform in big moments and in big games. Defensively, she is a physical defender who has good on-ball skills. She really gets after it on both ends of the court. She will be joining forces with guards Kennedy Waymer Kennedy Waymer PG Paxon | 2024 State FL and Ansley Hicks Ansley Hicks 5'6" | CG Paxon | 2024 State FL which will make the trio one of the toughest backcourts in the city.
Kamauria Page Kamauria Page SG NFEI | 2025 State FL / SG / San Jose Prep
Page shot the ball extremely well during the summer league. She has a quick release and doesn’t need much space to get her shot off. Page can really shoot the ball. Page is a selfless player and does a good job of taking what the defense gives her. Page has good length and uses it to her advantage. She plays the passing lanes well and with good anticipation. She is good at getting deflections and steals. Page also rebounds the ball well from the guard position.
Paris Washington Paris Washington 5'6" | SG Ribault | 2025 State FL / 5’6 G / Ribault
Washington does a lot of things well on the court. As a Freshman, she stood out on defense and was able to defend some of the top guards in the city last season. She also had some good moments during the AAU season, particularly in the Southern Jam tournament in Wesley Chapel. She was smooth on the court and displayed a nice jumper. What stood out in that tournament was her athleticism and her ability to rebound from the guard position.
Janai Jordan Janai Jordan 5'9" | PG Providence Jacksonville Florida | 2025 State FL / 5’8 G / Providence School
Jordan is one of the best young guards on the First Coast. She has an impressive skillset: She can handle the basketball, has very good speed, can score on all levels on the court, and knows how to put the ball in the basket. As a Freshman she averaged nearly 9 points per game and knocked down 17 three pointers. Jordan is a tough player who can get to the rim and draw fouls. She connected on 49 of 62 from the freethrow line at a clip of nearly 80 percent. She is an aggressive, penetrating guard who knows how to score the basketball. She is poised to have a great Sophomore campaign and will likely average double digits in the scoring column.
